The Darnold stans get triggered by my substantial doubt, but trust and believe I'll be THRILLED if I turn out to be dead wrong and Darnold is an absolute stud.

Remember, they believe it is impossible to doubt him and still hope he succeeds.

Doubt = pure hate. It's Huddle 101.

It's weird. It's like if you don't engage in Olympics level mental gymanstics to convince yourself that Darnold is a HOF talent just held back by the Jets then you're nothing but a hater.

I don't THINK that Darnold will ultimately work out. But I HOPE that he does because that's what is best for the Panthers.

The mental gymnastics are rampant here these days. Robby Anderson not wanting to be here, Super Bowls being won and lost by our lack of playing Sam Darnold in the preseason, this year fielding a top 10 defense, the 2021 draft picks being the best in Panthers history, etc, etc.

I get discussing and debating but it isn't all polar extremes. Darnold has been a bust, so expecting him to continue to be a bust....is pretty fuging logical. Doesn't mean we all can't hope he is the outlier. If so, great news! We have our guy and much rejoicing!

But, really, is this any different than last season? I definitely remember the level of mental gymnastics that were going on about Teddy Bridgewater. poo, that lasted until about 10 games into the season.

People don't like to hear it, but Trubisky has shown more promise on an NFL field than Darnold. If we were going with a veteran non-Watson QB, my preference was 1. Gardner Minshew 2. Mitchell Trubisky. Honestly, Darnold wasn't even on the list.

It's going to be so glorious to see you proven wrong about Darnold.

Part of what is tampering my expectations with Darnold is that I bought in full throttle with Teddy, NOT for 10 games though, lol. that gig was up after a few. At least teddy had been a good backup for NO the year before, just not a starter quality guy anymore.

Since I am an eternal optimist though, I have to believe that Darnold has all the tools to be a quality starter in the NFL (I didn't say MVP), and we just need to help him play up to that potential. But I've been hurt before.

He doesn't have any less potential than he did when he was drafted but neither does Josh Rosen. As a buddy of mine once said to me, "Potential just means you haven't done poo yet." So, we will see if he can do some poo.

We all get to suit up on Sept. 12th and hopefully watch the beginning of the continued march forward for the franchise, whether the steps be small or large.

Can't say I disagree. I think even our first choice was Watson until he got into trouble.

Yea I mean clearly Minshew can play. Trubisky who knows, could also be the HC at issue there but can be hard to tell like with Darnold. They both could turn out to actually be good. I think what will continue to be at play though is more being put on coaches to actually do something with their talent.

I don't think we'll be seeing too many Jeff Fishers as clearly a HC/OC coulda done something with Vince Young. Still happens but those teams have long been outcompeted by coaches with even basic intellect.

Well its basically certain he won't have an OL worth a poo so there's still that....basically what every QB here has had to deal with

    • MORGAN ON PLAY CALLER FOR CANALES   "I think that's really his [Canales'] call," he stated. "I think if he wants to promote somebody into being the play-caller or bring somebody from the outside. We haven't really talked about that. But that is something that I'm sure we'll talk about. We talk about every decision together. If he feels like he needs to add somebody or promote somebody into being the play-caller, then I trust him."
    • Dude, he cannot see the field, when his feet are not set he throws ducks.   What the fug are you watching?
    • I'm looking at the final drive, and that's where I'm laying the blame at Bryce's feet. Stepping up to the line, 38 seconds left, 3 time outs on the clock. 30 yards needed to attempt a FG. It's not Bryce's job to call the plays, that's DC's and it was terrible play calling.  It's Bryce's job to read what the defense is giving him at the line. The middle of the field is open. Rams are guarding against the deep ball and bringing pressure leaving the middle of the field ripe for the taking. Knowing his line not holding up for long, Bryce should have read the defense, called the audible, and thrown to the middle of the field for 6- 8 yards, like you said, quick slants would have worked. Then run either hurry up or call a TO. We had time. He has to make the adjustments. Any QB has to make the adjustments.  The pass Horn dropped hit his hands but was at his knees. Should he have slid and caught it? Probably. Was the pass a good one? No it wasn't. Both players were at fault, not just Horn. Let's not pretend that Bryce threw a beautiful pass that hit the receiver chest high right in the hands in perfect stride because that damn sure wasn't the throw.  The defense didn't choke away a lead. They never had a real lead. Choking away a lead is being up by multiple scores late in the 4th and losing. We were up by 4 and handed the ball back to a potential MVP with an All pro WR and potential future HoF WR2. One score games in the 4th are a slug fest. 28-3. That's choking away a lead.  I don't solely blame Bryce for the game, but you seem to solely blame the defense for the game because they went to prevent after losing Horn. You are forgetting the short field that the offense left them that led to the early Puka TD on one of our 2 failed 4th down conversions. Our defense has been given very limited resources over the past 3 years while we have tried to put everything possible around Bryce. We added a little bit to the D this year after giving up a NFL record in points last year. Our defense overachieved based on what they've been given to work with.
