Steve Smith has a history of very level headed statements.  Its basically been his M.O.

His story about buying out the team store of Smith jerseys when he was traded made me chuckle.

He's nuts.

So this is basically all about you falling in love with a QB (I assume Fields) and not being able to get over the fact that the Panthers FO / Coaching staff thought that Horn and Darnold were a better gamble?

Cos there are no facts backing up your arguments, just conjecture. Like going 'all-in' by using a 2nd round pick in a trade. For reference, going all in is sending 3 first round picks to a team for a player / Draft pick.

If Darnold doesn't work out this season we roll the dice next year on someone else - we've already shown we're happy to move on from failing QBs with average starting contracts.

This team is a QB injury away from a tank-a-thon lol

Shits the bed, as in he sucks.

Will you blame his failure on lack of preseason reps?

If he completely shits the bed I’ll largely talk about Rhule not drafting a QB.  And that Darnold as the only option was just a mistake anyone could see coming…

if he plays meh and we lose because the offense looks like it is out of sync doing dumb stuff ….yeah, Rhule could of worked on that in the preseason.

Yeah, to me this is basically the answer. IF he fails it won't be because he didn't get enough reps in the preseason, it won't be because our OL sucks, it won't be because of Adam Gase....it will be because he just isn't the guy. And that shouldn't be a shock if that indeed does happen.

Would I personally have liked to see him more? Absolutely. As a fan, I want to see him play so I can decide if he might be the guy. That said, wouldn't get too high or low on him regardless.....because it's the fuging preseason. After basically week 1, the mere mentions of preseason in any NFL broadcasts, articles, etc are basically nil. Everyone is extremely aware of how little value these games have outside of determining your final roster.

QB league.   And we had a dirt cheap top tier prospect fall in our laps.

if Darnold doesn’t work out.  The cost to add a prospect like Fields will likely come at a very steep cost.  Because one most likely wouldn’t fall in our laps twice.

I don't see either of those scenarios being linked to the preseason. He's either going to thrive or he won't. Fake games aren't going to determine that. He isn't a rookie.

Yeah, NFL coaches are full of bologna to the press and fans.  Rhule does nothing but double talk these days IMO.

It’s just my belief.  But yeah, I think if we didn’t have the INT….the plan in the post game presser would have been….well we told you wouldn’t play him without his full cast and we never see him.

I really dont get this Rhule "double talks" conspiracy.  He said on Thursday Darnold would make a cameo and he did.

The bottom line is if rhule doesn’t find a franchise qb quick he’s gone. And Scott might be with him too. I think it was a mistake to not play Darnold but whatever. I said before I’d give rhule 2 years after this season. He needs to be gone if he cant. This isn’t college. The 2 players better than one thing was so dumb. You need a game changing qb to win consistently. So far cutting cam, signing bridgewater and then trading a second for the worst ranked qb in the league is not cutting it. I hope Darnold works out strictly as a fan because I wanna see this team win and have fun.

if some of y’all would take a step back from your panthers fandom you would be laughing your ass off if another coach did this on another team.

Yeah, he didn’t actually say that though.  Said he could.  Said he would like to.  Then went into detail about how he could not see the field.   That’s the double talk.

it’s like playing a half vs the Steelers.  He starts off by saying playing Darnold about half is the goal.  Then goes on to say he didn’t say he would play a half.  Then starts rambling about why Darnold’s night likely is not going to be half.

So Mike Tomlin had Big Ben out there for no reason for multiple series?

or do they have a bunch of OL issues up front they wanted to rep so they are going into week 1 as prepared as possible…for what they can and can’t do and build chemistry.

    • I'm going rogue in R1 but there's so much confusion around us. Last year, we were going Walker or Williams and caught folks off guard with TMac. The previous year we LOVED Legette and it was no surprise when his name was called. This year, I think we nail three areas that weren't totally addressed in FA.  R1 - Kayden McDonald Full disclosure, I want Thienemann here, but think he goes before 19. Some might see an "overdraft" but McDonald unlocks so many people on our D. Having a DT the caliber of McDonald let's Lloyd, Wallace and the newly drafted Hill flood the offensive backfield. Also opens up Moehrig and our EDGES to eat. Lastly, it also removes all the pressure on DB to be the primary facilitator in the trenches and A'Shawn will be missed. I don't care about Turk. McDonald is the only true DT worth of a R1 grade and Morgan seals up our trenches here w/ a kid from a blue blood school. R2 - Anthony Hill Jr *trade up*  I love JRod, but think a smart team takes him at the end of R1 (Seattle, NE w/ two d-minded coaches). Hill, Jr is a beast and lost in the shuffle with all the Styles/Allen/Rodriguez hype. He and Lloyd with DB and McDonald up front and flanked by Scourton/Phillips is nasty.  R3 - Hecht/Lew/Center du jour Let's stop the madness with ignoring this position in the draft. We need one and should start normalizing the capital invested in our OL with someone on a draft contract. He won't need to start day 1, but I think the right selection will push for starter reps. R4 - Bud Clark Not sure if he's here in R4 where we pick, but would fit the "type" of FS/roamer that we need opposite Moehrig and Ransom. Allows us to run 3-safety looks and really keep teams guessing with personnel packages. R5 - Kendrick Law The kind of WR we need. IDK if he's any different than Horn, Jr or Metchie but Law could be a dart throw that brings a deep threat to our WR corps I'm guessing one of the R5 picks is used to move up in R2 along with a '27 day 3 pick.   Post-draft, I sign Njoku to bring in a vet at TE. I'm also keeping my eyes open for pre-week 1 team cuts for a young CB that we could bring in to maybe plan for Mike Jack's departure next year. Flame away.... I know the McDonald pick will not make people happy.
    • Classic example on what AI is not currently good for.  It will create a baseline of statistics (which are fine but must be used alongside tape and other evals) and partner that with every rumor mongering dips*&$t on the web.
