The concern I have with Rhule is that I feel like he believes that he is fixer-upper. That can take underachieving guys and make them good. He did it with Temple and he did it with Baylor, but the NFL is a whole different animal. This insistence on shielding Darnold from scrutiny furthers my believe.

My biggest issue with Rhule at the moment is I'm getting the impression that he's a "run the ball and play good defense" kind of coach. Just like Capers. Just like Fox. Just like Rivera.

Maybe it's the huge influence Snow has. Maybe it's all the draft picks. Maybe it's all the times we try to run it in the red zone. I don't know. But that's a hard way to win in this offense focused league.

Rhule lost me when he passed on Fields. Huge blunder IMO.

And yes, I'm still pissed about the Washington game.

You see,  you're the guy. He lost you because he didn't draft a QB that might,  in fact, suck? Are you aware that our general manager Scott Fitterer was involved in the draft decisions?

Dwayne Haskins is terrible. We didn't run a bunch of trick plays, go for it every 4th down, etc etc. We beat Washington because they played a terrible QB and have average coaching at best. Move on.

Maybe.  One thing to say about this whole idea of hiding Sam; it doesn't appear to exist outside this forum.  Sure, plenty question if he should be playing more in the preseason, but I can't find anything anywhere that hints he's being hidden for mysterious unsaid reasons or being overly protected.

To me, that bolded part is important.

Seriously, do we know he's being shielded from scrutiny?  We know that is why Sam isn't playing?  If so, how do we know this?  Maybe he is, but is that coming from anywhere but people's heads?  Nothing from the outside suggests this.  Could be, but could be a lot of things like injury concerns for one, or more time to evaluate bottom of the roster for another.  Why are we jumping to the most psychologically detached reason?

It's most likely moronic fans just going down a rabbit hole of conspiracy, likely out of boredom or to bitch because they are filled with blind hate or some shits.

I think the biggest problem is that after years of wasted draft picks after the first round, people think a team can turn around in a season.  We really sucked the last few years of Rivera.  Our defense, even with Luke, was horrible.  Our offense was mediocre.  We might do better this year, but we are still one or two years away from being solid.

Nah, instead we'll pass on a possible good prospect for a guy we know is not that good.

Yes, you can say it is unreasonable to be pissed at Rhule for beating Washington, but he still rubbed me the wrong way in the postgame interviews after that debacle.

Rhule and Fitterer didn't think Fields was a good enough prospect to take at 8. It's possible he wasn't even close in their minds. Maybe they're right?  Why "give up" on them?

You don't "know" Darnold isn't good. We'll see soon enough.

For you to be disappointed with 5-11, you would have to have expected better than 5-11.  There's your problem.

Personally, I saw 3 wins, maybe 2.  The roster was completely tore down, rightfully so.  How your expectations were so high is beyond me.  By all accounts, this team over performed last year...

Agree. If we’re honest we all thought we would be competing for the Trevor Lawrence sweepstakes. Some may still hope we did, but the young team definitely overachieved last year which is a big reason so many have unreasonable expectations for this year.

I personally would be OK with a season where we can get close to a .500 record and can legitimately take the next step in 2022.

Year 4 and 5 need to be wining seasons. Preferably year 3 too.

I would want more than two seasons to rebuild a franchise. I’ve got no problem letting him work his entire contract unless years 3 and four are absolutely abysmal.

Very reasonable although I think year 3 is reasonable to expect a winning record (9-8 maybe?)

I am not so sure if they didn’t like Fields or that they already took the QBs off the board since they made the Darnold trade prior to the draft.  I argued prior to the draft that they should still draft a QB if he falls and have him compete with Darnold. My preference was Lance  but he went way earlier than most mock-ups.  Doubling down on QBs would have increased our chances of securing the most important position on the team, but defense would obviously suffer without a talent like Horn.

Are you saying the 2019 roster is better than the 2021 roster? Bc on paper this roster far succeeds the 2019 roster. So there goes your “build a better roster” point.

On paper that 2019 roster was INSANELY better than this 2021 roster. But, we all saw how that worked out.

His "honeymoon"  period with me is about his coaching THIS YEAR..  We know the players on the field are probably not Super Bowl players this year.   He doesn't get a pass for inept coaching though.

I'm looking to see if he's learned Game Management and Strategy  of the NFL .

Did he hire the correct coordinators ?? I still have questions about Joe Brady. I didn't like his play calling in the red zone.  I don't care if Robby, DJ , Marshall  , CMC all get 1000 yrds if we can't score.

I hope Coach Rhule is spot on..

This is BIG concern I have as well. Same with the obsession with RAS, wanting linemen that are above all versatile, etc. Those are all things you do in college that don't always transfer to the NFL. If you haven't been successful in multiple NFL stops(Erving/Elflein), the problem is probably the player. If you have a history of being injured(Perryman), that isn't likely to change. If you are an elite college athlete that didn't produce in college(Heyward-Bey), that typically doesn't bode well for NFL production.

These are areas that I will admit concern me a lot about Rhule. What I hope happens is that the failures in these areas are quickly filed away as experience and he learns from these cases as we make mistakes.

I do think a big failing initially was not having someone in the organization with a lot of NFL coaching experience to help him out.
