The Athletic not very impressed with Sam Darnold

The thing is they and others are too concerned with declaring him great or not. The whole crowning thing. If they just look at what he's done on the field this year it's an easier judgement but less controversial.

Enjoy watching each game, grade it, and relax.

He basically went back and looked at every single play from that vid you provided and proved you wrong, yet you are going to stick your head in the sand and still claim it's a first read?

The irony here is that Gooby has been caught making sh-t up himself on more than one occasion.

The offence is actually designed around pre-snap reads.

Brady has made it really simple for Darnold:

Exactly. You get to the line quickly, look at the defense and then adjust your play and protections based on what Darnold sees. You try and get favorable matchups or overloads for an easy pitch and catch. I used to hate that NO would always have someone open on every play but now that we run a similar scheme, I love it.  I mean I hate the Saints but like their offensive scheme.

How dastardly evil of him to execute the play the way it was drawn up.  If he was a better QB, he would improvise instead, right?

My friend you are debating with a fool. My unwanted advice is to save your energy for someone that has a clue of what they are talking about.

I know.  It was a momentary lapse in judgment.

People keep mentioning Brady but few or none have mentioned Sean Ryan’s name and contribution to Sam’s success thus far.  Brady gets credit for scheme and play calling but it is Ryan who is in Sam’s ear and head between each offensive series.

Sean Ryan, the QB whisperer…

Sean Ryan, the Anti-Gase.

Nope your just taking offense to me calling him a one read QB.

Here’s Greg Cosell backing up everything already said. God knows where the other guy is getting 3rd and 4th options from

    • I wonder if they'd consider trading Rasheed Walker to a team that needs tackle help but missed out in the draft?
    • LOL. This is such a Panthers fan take.  Anyone who falls to us must suck because some other team didn't take them before.  We got lucky with Lemon, Thieneman, and Freeling all falling to us (honestly any of the three is a A+) but the WR and S positions are much deeper than the LT position in this draft.  We got the LT w/ the most upside at 19.  Mauigoa played RT in college and some think he is a guard in the nfl.  Spano played RT in college and some think he is a guard in the NFL due to short arms.  Blake Miller played RT in college and is not as good as Freeling.  Proctor is a true LT but his ability to handle quick edge's worries me (see Icky).  Freeling is a true LT and a gifted pass protector.  Many think he has a very high ceiling and will benefit from not having to start right away.  This is how you build a franchise.
    • After watching Cam get killed for years behind a bad Oline and having to watch the 2021 and 2023 Olines I will never complain about this team putting resources into that spot.  We got a true LT who could really push Rasheed Walker for the day 1 job. Go back and watch Iceky's draft profile from 2022 and all the talk was Ickey would be an all-pro guard in a zone blocking scheme, but he could play LT in a gap power run scheme. That's why Ickey looked really good when Wilks took over and we just started running gap run plays and just mauled people up front but under Canales we've been more of a zone running team. Ickey can survive at LT with his pass blocking but his true strength will always be his ability to just move guys in the run game and that's a skill set that's better used at guard.  Take another OT later on day 3 to learn from Moton to take over RT in a couple of years and let Walker and Freeling battle it out for the day 1 LT job then next offseason trade one of Hunt of Lewis and let Ickey move inside to guard.
