Panther Trade Rumors

Here's the thing, bad teams at this point in the season may have already packed it in, but they don't want to get rid of good or decent O-linemen so that they have them in place for next season's rebuild.

Really good teams at this point in the season aren't messing with anything and are keeping their back-up linemen on hand in case of injuries.

Decent teams that are still figuring out if they have a shot or not aren't going to take a chance at losing an offensive linemen right now and mess up whatever chances they have of pulling out a decent season and potentially keeping coaching jobs.

Literally no one is willing to give up on a lineman of the quality that would actually improve our play right now and probably not one before the trade deadline either. We're going to have to get better at coaching, scheming and developing. We might not want to say it, but the answer has to be on our roster because it's not out there in the wilderness.

This is the worst "hot take" I see in our fanbase.  Do you seriously believe our front office and staff didn't see the problem?  Come on man, they knew it was a problem.  Seriously - what do you expect them to say publicly?  "Yea, our OLine is gonna suck"

We signed Moton.  We signed Elfein.  We signed Erving.  We drafted Christianson.  We drafted Brown.  Etc

Now, you can argue that some of our signings were not what we would have liked.  But consider for a moment that we walked into last offseason with a 42 million dollar weight strapped around our neck.  We just didn't have the resources available in terms of cap space that other teams had.

You can argue that our draft picks haven't shown out yet.  The season has a long way to go.  A lot can change.  Norwell and Turner started 2014 on the bench, but were playing in December.

This ain't Madden where you can power through a season in a couple days and fix problems.  This is the NFL.  It takes time.

disagree on this one Brian

They had money.  They had the space.  They knew the history of those veteran players and those histories are not good

one decent signing could have made a lot of difference. One decent oline man drafted vs Marshall could have made a lot of difference

I hear Slater is doing well too

sorry, the lines are the priority, well at least one of them is to Rhule

You don’t get shiny toys when your house’s foundation is flawed   You fix the foundation or you have no house

The fact they thought they had adequately worked on the oline is the root of the problem. They look to value positional versatility over being good at one spot, They look to value athleticism and ignor injury histories. It's early but that's where we look to be with that mess.

I've seen comparisons to the previous regime, which I don't see. Fitt is constantly improving this team. Yes, I admit  the offensive line was overlooked yet again,  for whatever reason. I can only assume that they felt it was good enough to fit their offensive strategy. But at least they're still looking to improve it.

We identified guys who we thought would be decent veteran bandaids and we specifically targeted them. They had historically been mediocre and oft-injured. They proved to be mediocre and oft-injured for us. This was entirely predictable. In short, we Hurney's it on the OL this off-season. We made poor evaluations and we spent poorly. Erving and Elflein were vet minimum type of players. Paying them better won't make them better. Classic Hurney type mistake.

The problem with this premise is that it assumes there were legit options available with our salary cap constraints.  I hear you regarding injuries, I really do.  But peruse this list for a bit and be terrified:

https://walterfootball.com/freeagents2021G.php

I know, Walter football, they suck.  But it's just a list.  Hard to get that wrong.  The point is that as you read thru that list you see a lot of "wouldn't have cut him if he didn't have injury issues" or "dubious injury history" or "coming off a knee injury".

And even if Walter isn't that great, they had John Miller - yes, our John Miller - as the 13th rated free agent at Guard.  They had Chris Reed - yes, our Chris Reed - as the 15th rated Guard.

It was just a scary and awful offseason to need IOL.  Look at the list man.  Who do you think we should have tried to sign?

Chris Reed look pretty good fir the Colt the other night they even mention that on the broadcast. They should have signed Joe Thuney and Drafted Slater in the first

If nobody wants to trade lineman then that should tell you they are the hardest position beside QB to find so maybe we shouldn’t spend a whole draft on defense or adding a wr and rb in the draft last year when we knew the online was terrible .Fix the line first before you add skill players or when you do fix the line the skill players will be to beat up to roll with anyways.

To add to this, also they are free agents.  They have to WANT to come here.  We can't just pick people and make them play for us if they don't want to.  It's impossible to say who we targeted that came back and said "there is not enough money in the world..."

I really wanted an OT in the first round! When Sewell was picked I was deflated. Then I thought for sure Fitty would draft Slater. NOPE a CB. So, I thought, ok there are some good linemen left in the 2nd round. NOPE a WR! We already had DJ and Robby! This team has been absolutely awful on the Oline for years! If we had a good Oline we would have won the Super Bowl in 2015. I’m just sick of it!

    • Texas has him listed as playing at 207. Combine weight doesn't mean crap, with Bryce being Exhibit A. https://texassports.com/sports/football/roster/jonathon-brooks/12405 Even if he is 216 off-season, that is still 19 pounds lighter and unlikely to be maintained in-season. But feel free to keep being wrong and posting moronic nonsense while doing it.
