Next Steps (as considered from my toilet)

If we think there's a potential franchise QB on the board, FUGING DRAFT HIM. When you need a QB you don't have the luxury of picking and choosing the absolute perfect timing. When the opportunity presents itself you have to jump. When you're sitting through everyone else's trash can to try to find the answer at the most important position in the game, that's exactly what you're likely to find - trash.

And this,  ie not taking a QB1, along with ‘versatility’ being the most valued trait if the oline, and screwing up draft position, is the leaky foundation  built by Rhule

i stil don’t think he gets it.  This is the house, he alone, built.  His players. His staff.

the fact is, it will take at least …at a minimum…of two years to fix this and that’s if he hits on every draft pick and every free agent.   It didn’t need to be this way.

when they introduced  the guy, and he talked too much, I knew we were screwed.

There hasn’t been a pro coach alive or dead, that talks that much.

It’s high stakes poker and this guy does a ‘tell’ with every hand

in life, there those who do and those who talk about doing.

See, this is what we lost sight of, myself included.

You never, ever, EVER pass on drafting a franchise QB.  Don't get me wrong, Jaycee Horn is a fantastic player.  Likely a 10+ year starter.  Between Jaycee and Chinn, our back end looks solid.

But if that staff believed Fields was a franchise guy, there is no position more important.  Seems like they didn't, time will prove them right or wrong.

However, I still maintain that the biggest mistake we made this offseason was not having a legit, veteran backup.

at this point it doesn't look like there is a QB we should take in the draft this year, and the best 2 or 3 will probably be taken before our pick anyway.

I like the idea of getting Fitz or Tyrod.  So spend our draft and FA building the line and hope we can find a long term  QB in 2023.  Sucks but that's what happens when you don't have a QB.  They are hard to find.

I am not trusting this staff to accurately evaluate any college qb.  Get a top tackle and then go from there.

Picking a wrong rookie qb would further set this franchise back.

If you don't trust this staff to evaluate a QB (which is completely understandable given the two they've chosen so far) then you gotta clean house and start over.

Thats where I am at.  Build the line and take a year or so to figure out the qb problem.  Dropping a rookie qb behind this line would be lunacy.  There are literally going to be 4 new starters on the line next season and the only way we can restock the line is through the draft and the trash heap that will be in free agency.

The hypocrisy of anyone pounding the table complaining about Rhule and co. taking an unnecessary risk on Darnold, yet want to draft a QB in the first round with this O-Line.

It’s incredible.

I’d take a guy like Minshew and try my best to beef up all three interior O-line spots. Erving has played fine when healthy and it’s a pipe dream to upgrade Tackle spots this off-season. Better to go for the things that’s has been killing us: the interior.

The Panthers put themselves in a situation where they can’t build through the draft. At least not the next draft because they gave away a high 2nd on Sam and a high 3rd on a CB that apparently does not have his head on straight. The result is they are going to have to build via free agency. This means they will be forced to over pay. I can’t believe this team is actually worse than last year.
If I am Tepper, I shut this thing down now and start over with experienced NFL coaches. Rhule = Chip Kelly

I see a lot of folks are coming around to this idea.  I like it.  It starts with the OL folks.  I know some UNC homers are frothing at the mouth about the prospects of Howell.  Take him out of the equation (significant injury/stays in school) and they would see the light as well.

If a veteran QB can't get the job done behind this OL, how in the heck is a rookie supposed to do it?

Fix the OL via the draft and FA, get a veteran QB, make Sam the #2, cut PJ and keep Morgan on the practice squad as the #3 next season.  In 2023 with ditch Sam, draft a rookie QB to learn behind the veteran for a year and hopefully by 2024 we have a solid OL and franchise QB.

I know that's a long term plan, but slapping band aides on these wounds when they really required stitches has only prolonged the agonizing bleeding.

Chip Kelly actually got results though and built a nice chunk of the roster that won a super bowl.

    • I want the conversations at season's end to be more about what else we need to build onto the foundation to be playoff contenders and less about the fultility of drafting yet another QB and hiring yet another coach because as long as Tepper is the owner, it doesn't matter what this team does.
