Cam set to start against Washington

"Starting" doesn't equal 100% of the snaps.  People freaking out for no reason.  Think of it this way - if Cam is the starter, he gets to run out of the tunnel during player intros and send the stadium into a frenzy not seen nor heard in years.  He comes on the field for the first series.  I'm certain PJ will be involved in the game plan.

I think cam will start for dramatic effect but I think it'll be a 2 QB system.

I KNOW cam is better than pj and I believe he will play well but throw cam out there without full knowledge of the playbook and he plays bad... Then what you pull him for PJ? Would be a nightmare scenario.

I think we'll see both with cam getting like 70% burn

You're probably right here, BUT I think a lot also depends on how we start the game on offense.  If Cam gets in a groove and we're marching up and down the field, its gonna be hard to take him out of the game for any extended period of time.

I think the point is that Cam is not in game shape yet, doesn't know the playbook and we have an O line that can let a DL attach the QB's blind side. Nothing about if Cam is the QB1, of course he is.

I have know idea what Rhule is thinking by announcing the QB on Monday...I hope he's being deceptive. Chuba would be out if Cam was in, I like him a bunch but his blocking is still at rookie level. So it would be the Cam/ CMC show, neither need a bunch a reps against a WFT that our D may just destroy anyway. Do think Shaq may know their QB?

It makes sense to use Cam when needed but PJ know the playbook is mobile and most important...expendable. Not starting Cam for a full game is about giving him the best chance to go full speed in three weeks, if he gets hurt this weekend, we are back to square one and then it will be PJ and Morgan for the most of the season.

I know I'm in the minority here, but I don't think they should try a 2 QB system save for small packages for PJ that Cam hasn't had time to learn and for which PJ is EXTREMELY comfortable.  The reason is that Cam NEEDS first team starting reps, and we also know PJ sucks when he doesn't get those reps (see every other game he's played he hasn't started in, lol).  Cam needs to get all the reps he can moving forward and I don't want us to stick PJ out there without preparation just to get cute.

PJ didn't get most of the starting reps heading into his first start.   They were hoping to start Teddy.  What he was allowed to do in that game....is actually be part of a balanced offensive gameplan.

You throw any green QB out there down by multiple scores and ask them to pass everydown?   They generally are going to suck because of the scenario.   Especially one that isn't risk adverse.

PJ doesn't suck.  PJ is a backup level QB.   That's his job. The problem isn't PJ, it's how people choose to judge him IMO. Twice, he has legitmately been asked to come in and start and game and we found ways to win.  PJ doesn't suck.  PJ largely does his job.  Inserted into games to orchestrate comebacks down multiple scores isn't his job....but it is the primary measure some use to evaluate him.

Sam Darnold sucks.  Sam has imploded defensive efforts like the one we just saw in AZ.   And he isn't a backup QB.

PJ probably does implode the team without Cam, lol.  Darnold DOES suck. That doesn't make PJ good.  They look the same, but PJ had an effective run game this game and Darnold didn't.  Their passing charts look crazy similar.  They both take huge risks.  Walker had a 3.7 intended air yards per completion.  A third of his throws went to CMC (and half of those caught did).

PJ averages 2 turnovers a game when he starts. That is not good.  He almost had a third last game that was thankfully called back.

If he's gonna keep playing for us, he absolutely needs to clean up his play.  He's a more decisive version of Darnold, but that doesn't mean the decisiveness is leading to better decisions lol.

I mean, if PJ was going to implode the team in a Sam like manner....well, the opporunity was there.   Yet, the O kept putting Cam on the goaline for the glory.  Even Cam referenced the reality of that.

PJ is a backup QB that has done his job twice for us.  He doesn't suck if you acknowledge the job he actually has.  He is a backup QB.  He looks the part.

Interested to see how he plays if he starts. Washington has a legitimate defense and Rivera knows Cam's strengths and weaknesses. But Cam should be well rested and fresh. Should be a good game.  Let Cam start and see what he can do. We need to see how everyone plays and we have lots of decisions at the end of the year. Personally I hope Cam has a great day and shows he is back.

Right but against NE, Sam moved the ball a few times before his turnovers, too. But no Cam to fall back on... Same is true in most non NYG weeks (just look at ATL).  The issue has been the red zone and decision making where Darnold has been craaaappp in weeks.

PJ definitely is more decisive. For better or worse. And AZ was much worse at bottling the run vs NE (maybe this is an OL and Cam difference too.  Maybe they did fear PJ more).

Cam did credit CMAC for getting him to the goal line... He really did. That statement isnt a knock on PJ btw. CMAC is just really good.

    • i love people with no medical experience making tenuous assumptions based on, uh, the fact his dad sucked in every practical lab in med school and had to go into psychiatry its fun to think of what these same fans would be saying with any other profession "well his dad was a cardiologist so obviously he knows how to stay calm." "well his dad was a neurologist so oviously he keeps his brain waves at a low level and isn't at risk of seizure, which is good (obviously)." "well his dad is a surgeon so he knows how to overcome his lack of confidence over height." "well his dad was a pediatrician so that's why he looks like a child, but kids don't get injured easily and have limitless potential so-"
    • Oh it’s made the decision easier knowing we were years away from competing. He just obviously didn’t think it was some sort of clown show as he took a job with that staff and still hangs around to help. Injuries were the major concern. Willis retired “early” as well, plus there was another very young LB in SF that did. Positions that take a lot of impact are starting to not push themselves too late in their careers to protect their long term health.
    • Obviously his health was the reason but the state of the team definitely helped. Luke doesn't strike me as someone who cares about individual accomplishments much at all. He loved the game and he wanted to win with the Panthers.  He wouldn't risk his life to go chase a ring elsewhere. It was difficult for him to step away from a team that was bad, if the Panthers were serious contenders I really think he would have tried to see it through.  Everything worked out the way that it was meant to in the end. It was sad seeing his career cut short but if he had a suffered a serious injury from football I can't even imagine. EDIT: To be clear I don't think the medical staff was part of his decision at all. It just helped that the team was far from winning a SB when he bowed out.
