The Great QB Experiment

Do people really think that?  I don't think any of us around here are under any illusions that Sam is a good QB, regardless of what our line looks like.  The fact remains though, that the line is putrid, and needs to be badly fixed, regardless of who is under center.

Rhule and Fitterer both made comments to the effect of "we just have to protect Darnold better"band "he showed some good things when we protected him". I don't know if they're in just utter denial or they're trying to put up a hilariously bad smokescreen. Then again, we've been dumb enough at the QB position under Rhule, it would be tough to concoct a smokescreen idea that would be idiotic enough for folks to disbelieve thinking "there's no way they're THAT stupid" because, I mean... we really might be based on recent history.

I watched both press conferences yesterday, begrudgingly, and came away even more defeated. Whether it was some pretty serious coach-speak or flat out lies - both Fit and Rhule seemed very supportive and confident in going into next season with Sam as our starter. It purely seemed like the overall approach is to protect him and magically he will be the guy.

Newsflash: Darnold sucks and he is what he is.

It's why I was baffled that evidently there are folks not picking up on this. I mean, it came right out of our decision makers' mouths. I hope it's a really bad effort at a slick smokescreen but honestly who knows with these clowns?

They wasted no time last year to show their cards on moving on from Teddy. That same energy wasn’t brought to the table in regards to Darnold.

You didn't think they were going to cut him did you?  Rhule is tied to Sam like a boat anchor.  They will go down together next season.

You better hope Cam comes back on the cheap to provide some competition at least. Then I doubt Rhule starts anyone but Sam.  Not because he's earned it but because Rhule put his reputation on it.

Rhules first 2 draft picks:  Pick 8.  Pick 6

Sam Darnold first 4 seasons:  Pick 3. Pick 11.  Pick 2. Pick 6

Top five here we come

I'm going to say it, detractors be damned. IF this team upgrades the OL in any meaningful way, I want one more year of Cam in Carolina. Is he washed up? Maybe. I don't think his shoulder is right, and it never will be. But this team will suck regardless what with Sam and this HC, so I'd like one good reason to tune in, and that reason is Cam. I want to see him get a couple more rushing/passing TD games, and want to see him go out on a higher note than where he is at now. That is all.

I want Sam for one more year.

1. I would much rather spend our capital addressing other areas rather than chasing our 3rd new off-season starting QB acquisition in as many years, who's going to have the exact same results behind the shambles of a line we've constructed.

2. If he does better, he might even have some trade value. Maybe peanuts. But hey, I'll take peanuts over nothing.

3. If he does great behind a revamped line, maybe we have a QB of the future.

4. If he does the same or worse, we're locking up a top 5 pick in a much stronger QB class. And cement Rhule's ouster. That's a win in my book.

Told you guys for weeks that Rhule wasn’t going anywhere. Now I’m telling you Sam Darnold will be our starter week one barring an injury or Illness.

Yes, I believe he will be too but not because Rhule thinks he's Mahomes but because WHO the HELL ELSE CAN WE GET????? Next season will be his make it or break it year. We will try to fix the Oline and then if Sam continues to fail we will look to draft a QB in 2023. I swear, people act like they didn't try to get 2 other QBs before Sam and they got the best chance they could get or that they could have drafted a starting QB, LT, C and G ready to play in their first season and all problems would have been resolved and that they are stupid for not doing that.
