Rhule staying, the silver lining

It seemed unique and an all-in approach on building a stalwart defense, but that all-D draft in 2020 definitely set things back.  Unsure it makes sense to do this 1st year D, 2nd year O approach.  Just build with the best suited talent you find available.  Brown, YGM, & Chinn were awesome to grab and I won't lie, a lot of us liked that haul; buuut Pride & Kenny Robinson being our mid-rounders could've been some offensive talent.  Hell, those rounds produced Tyler Biadasz for the Boys, some good guards and WRs.

Just seems unbalanced.

Hoping they don't purge too much 2023 assets

5. Controversial maybe, but I believe it will matter to some coaching talent out there the fact Tepper gave a more than a reasonable amount of time (three years) to Rhule. For a fan this sucks but as a potential coach I think this matters.

I think this maybe one of the most important and under appreciated points.

Reading this post OP was a breath of fresh air on this page recently. I appreciate the  thought you put into it.

Jokes aside, a lot of these things can change with panicked, win now moves. We literally saw that happen this season.

Remember when Bill O'Brien had complete control and he was on the hot seat? The Texans literally still haven't recovered from that.

I know.  I'm so depressed.

These points are a sunken cost fallacy. What's done is done but leaving Rhule in place means no development for players currently here or other organizational improvements, and that's the main reason ditching him now appears the right move.

The lack of winning is front and center but Rhule's most egregious failures are the crappy roster moves, lack of strategic aptitude, and overall team regression during his tenure. Any coach that comes in and actually shows progress on the latter 3 retains their job even if the winning slowly comes, and all 3 are achievable in most any circumstance... pretty simple.

I agree totally.

If ownership doesn't set limits Rhule can dig a much deeper hole for thr Panthers to dig out of after he is finally fired. Future draft picks, next year's abundance of cap and contacts trying us to the wrong guys because they were Rhule guys could kill off some of those silver linings.

At the moment Tepper appears MIA. Not good for us in 2023. Limits need to be set on Rhule before the offseason activities starts.

Exactly!

Maybe aliens will abduct Rhule’s ass and save us all from this mess because I fear that it’s going to get way worse before he’s finally gone.america guy GIF

The aliens would quickly fire his ass too, complaining that after the abduction he totally screwed up their team on planet Zetox.

    • we got spoiled having superman and even then...he wasn't enough. superman was a fluke. there are incredibly unrealistic expectations for a first round QB, especially a first overall pick. people look at the short term, first year, rather than what you might get the next 10 and they also think that what you see the first year or two is what you get the rest of the time.  it just doesn't work like that. these guys are all young and a work in progress. you draft on potential. what it takes to reach that potential is different for everyone and it all depends on the situation they fall into, the player pieces around them, the scheme they either put him in or develop around him (the latter is better), and the coaching they give him. then there's also the work the player has to put into it. the work they put into is is the only thing they can control. the rest is just luck.
    • I actually agree with everything you've said here. My comment was directed to the posters who feel the need to derail threads with the same Bryce talking points over and over again. It's just tiresome, even if what they're saying has some truth to it.
    • That's not totally the case. It is hard to discuss future without a crystal ball, you look at the past the to assess and project, and there is a lot of on field negative from year one. Some people say throw it out. You can’t dismiss things that were on him and not the OL or Reich or Chark or Mingo etc., if you want the real story.  That footwork is not just people picking on him, it is probably a huge barrier to his potential success. All the passing comes from a base and if it is off the throws are hard to trust.  OTA optimism is fools gold tbh. It buys nothing. We have seen the skins and shirts all stars enough times to know what that is. We will need real football at real football game speed which we won’t get even in preseason.  That said I expect him to somehow make his way to somewhere in QB tiers or rankings to maybe low 20s. Gotta win 6 at least for that.  My opinion is if they can make a playoff run with a 4th tier QB then fine but I’d just as soon go over to the side of those who for years held out for a QB capable of taking the team to and winning a SB. I am not thinking he is that guy so far but taking this year to find out is necessary.
