What advanced metrics for Pickett don’t look good?

A/Y especially stood out (7.3yds career) as it showed he was looking short more often than not. Hand size is a concern (8.25"). He's essentially a one year wonder at the position when looking at his stats.

Watching him play though, you see him taking his shots deep, but his WRs often have to slow down (or even turn around) for the ball when he's going deep. The ball doesn't leap out of his hand either. Very much a touch passer from what it looks, but watching some of his senior year games he was most definitely looking deeper (also seen by his 2021 8.7 A/Y).

His TD:INT ratio was also fairly suspect. He more or less exploded during his senior year and that's going to be a huge concern for evaluators.

I think this is the best game to evaluate Pickett.  It's his best season vs the best defense he played that year.   Now, this wasn't the week 1 Clemson D that GA saw as they had lost guys by this time but still a good test given the talent and coordinator.

That guy can barely throw a NCAA ball, JFC what are people talking about. I just got OT Little vibes from that film.

Yeah I can see us taking that dud sadly.

7.3 is lower than some other QBs, but was it because that is what his system asked him to do or because he couldn't more.  His last year was actually 9.7.

Justin Herbert's last year was 8.1.

You have to be carefull when you are deciding if a player isn't asked to do something as opposed to when they can't do something.

Also this tweet might surprise some people

Even if his receivers are slowing down he is still completing more than almost any other QBs in the league.

Now speaking of hand size, I'm not sure if I would really consider an advanced metric.  Also anyone who is worried about it needs to make sure to stand up for Rhule whenever anyone criticizes him for passing on Slater for arm length.

If you look at some real advanced metrics, such as grade under pressure and accuracy at various levels of the field he is actually pretty good.

Biggest issue with Pickett is the one year of play.  That scares people.  If he had this same level of play for two years he would be a top-10 lock.

as a Clemson fan, the only additional comment I would add if people are going to look at that game.  IMO, opponents were afforded the opportunity of some conservative play given Clemson literally had no offense this year.   The strategy against Clemson was basically play it safe and let the Clemson offense mess up and give you opportunity.  I think you saw some of that in this game.  As Pickett doesn't really make a lot of impressive throws inside the pocket.

I am on record as to not wanting him but he had like 5-6 nfl throws in that video you just posted.  I am not sure what ground zero should be for those types of throws but he made them against a good clemson defense.  I dont think he is terrible but I would want a scout or someone to explain the extreme progression of play from his 4rth to 5th year.  After that video I kindof like how he trusts his arm into making some of those throws.  The 2 gloves thing scare the poo out of me but he isnt that bad of a prospect imo.

Clemson has a good scheme and defensive front.  So I give him credit in this game for dealing with that.

But I am also on record of not being a Pickett guy.  Seen a lot of him over the years and this one season IMO isn't enough to gamble a first round pick on him.   Seems more like a 3rd round type gamble.  Not talented enough to be the first round lotto gamble.

I don't watch NCAA ball and I have no school fanhoods.

That guy is a terrible NFL prospect. He really does look Pickle-esk, with wheels. IDK if that guy has enough to become a backup at the next level. Just awful. Maybe he can use that speed at another position, QB is doomed for the poor guy. No reason to even evaluate the rest of his game, he is just a bad QB prospect in the NFL.

Now I get why some were trying to distance him from Pickles, they are more alike in throwing than I have seen since we wasted a draft pick on Pickles. Big Yikes.

I just don't get it. It was hard to watch to half way, went back and watched the rest and the throws he made down hill looked to have an extended windup in his throwing motion and something extra with his fee. I just don't get the love for this guy at all.
