Reddick's asking price

With all the edge rushers in the draft and some being released, and some teams in cap trouble already, he may not get that. That's why, IMO the Panthers want to leave the communication open. If he doesn't get the money he wants, he would probably take lower to stay, even if it's a 2 year deal.

and the reason i said Burns was our most valuable asset on the team.

Outside of actually playing QB, getting to the QB is probably the most sought after skill in the league.  He will get paid well.

The one thing that might hurt him some is that this draft class is looking pretty good on edge.

He started off the year on fire... 6.5 sacks in our first 5 games.

Back end...not so much.

I believe he had 4.5 sacks in our last 12 games.

And while's he's still relatively young he's also approaching his 30's.

I think we're moving forward and looking at filling that void with YGM, Fox, and/or Luvu.

Outside chance that Darryl Johnson Jr (traded our 6th for) or Joe Jackson emerges but another option would be resigning Marquis Haynes but we're trying to get bigger upfront so that might be out of the question entirely. However in terms of getting after the QB he's probably third behind Reddick and Burns.

One of the stronger, if not best pools for draft is DE/edge. Like you said Pats just cut Kyle Van Noy and Chandler Jones/Von miller many others are free agents.........i liked reddick and all, buts hes a try-hard 225 edge guy in a deep pool of options form younger to more talent, etc.

If he gets 15+ I will be very surprised. At times agents can get players in big trouble, this could be a case where they crawl back to the panthers and rhule/finesererrr are like " sorry that 12+ million offer is expired, used up 10 million of it on a Trent Brown.....best we can do is another 1 year 8 million type of deal....i got other calls, bye!"

From the article on the McCaffrey trade offers...

One team told me pending free agent pass rusher Haason Reddick is looking for a deal averaging up to $17 million per year. He's had 23.5 sacks in the last two years for two different teams so he's going to get paid. But that number explains why the Panthers aren't rushing to re-sign him.

NFL Insider Notebook

Everytime I see his name, I always think about the Bugs Bunny/Daffy Duck cartoon where Daffy finds the Arabian treasure but the guard of the treasure keeps chasing Daffy with his scimitar screaming “HASSAN CHOP!”

    • No, the casual fan gets sucked into THIS^^^ kind of thinking, and it's so woefully incorrect that it's almost sad. The first is what I've said numerous times, NOTHING about non guaranteed contracts save the billionaire owners a single penny, because they still have to spend their cap floor, and the only reason teams ever don't spend the full limit, is to then roll it over into the next season to be able to spend more that year. But in the end, owners pay the same amount of money no matter what. The reverse is also the same, that the players in totality make the same amount of money as well, because in your example of Clowney not getting that money this year, it will go to another player, as the cap needs to be spent. And you say how we just cut Clowney after we gave him the 2 year contract, but everyone including Clowney's agent and himself, knew when it was signed, that it was more likely to be a 1 year contract than a 2 with how it was structured.  The 2nd year was just to be able to spread out the cap hit and he was always most likely going to end up getting traded or cut. It's why agents and players don't care about the total money in a contract, it's always and only been about the guaranteed money, as the years and overall value are meaningless, always have been, always will be.
    • Agents will have their 1st round picks hold out until the pay structure of their contract is to their liking, not how much money they'll get or even how much is guaranteed, just the when/how they will get the money over the course of the contract. If they're willing to recommend those players hold our, do you really think they won't do it for 2nd rounders to guarantee them an extra 10% of their entire rookie contract?
