Defense Taking Shape**

With the ''trade'' business out of the way the focus has shifted back to FA, as we round up some of the moves / current roster, we are starting to look like we're in better shape than last year with the exclusion of a proven edge rusher opposite Burns.

The plan could be to see YGM's role increase with Haynes being rotational as he has been, though I'd still like to see a veteran addition.

___________________________________________________________________________________

EDGE - Burns / Haynes -- We need to add depth here vet FA's availabe -- Clowney / Ingram / Hughes

DL - Brown / Ioannidis / YGM -- I like our depth here with Roy / Nixon / Haskins -- the three referenced above can pay the Nickel / 4-3 DE positions opposite Burns

ILB - Shaq / Luvu / Wilson / Chinn on passing downs, and in some base sets -- depth is still a bit of concern here, but off ball LB'er is general cheap in relation to depth

CB - Horn / Henderson / Taylor -- I could see us adding Jackson back, he's a niche corner and had that role here as the move piece to match the smaller quicker WRs

S - Chinn / Woods / Tre' Boston's mystery FA -- Hartsfield / Robinson are nice depth -- I honestly wonder if Chandler and Franklin make the roster this year

I don’t think I want Jackson back. I’d prefer a vet for depth/leadership. We traded a 3rd for Henderson and I want to see what he can do with Wilks as his coach. I’m liking the DL with Burns, Ioan, Brown, and YGM. We should be better at stopping the run and hopefully YGM develops into a solid player.

So are we playing the 43, 34, 52, 433, defense again?

2-4-5 was our primary defense last year (55%) ... Every team runs a type of nickel more than anything else in  this day and age. With Chinn playing full time Joker/Monster (assumption) that will most likely lean us into a big nickel.

I think we are chasing Gilmore

    • Ehlers needs to sit. Definitely can't lose him to a meaningless game.
    • Bet didn't hit because the referee missed 3 clear corner kicks. I had a 5k parlay that would have been alive tomorrow if he didn't miss those calls as well. Super annoying
    • I don't think it's at all a given that we have players who are good at driving the basket. I guess that depends on your definition. Bridges is 43rd in attempts in the paint Miller is 64th and LaMelo is 66th. We all love to see the lob threat but it's largely miniscule at this point in time. There's gotta be a solution here if LaMelo is to be the centerpiece because this is simply not sustainable if we want to continue to ascend. If he can't drive to the basket then that means we need to add another player to the core who consistently can. That would require moving someone like Miles Bridges. And that's certainly not going to be popular with LaMelo but something has to give here for what we are investing and we need to maximize guys like Miller and Knueppel on rookie deals while we still can. The three chucking is fine when it's working where the issue comes into play is there are no adjustments when it isn't and we just go into a shell and begin to look like the Hornets of yesteryear. That's why the offensive evolution of all involved is critical to us taking the next step. Getting to the play in is nice but we should have our sights set much higher. Right now though they need to take care of business against the Heat. All I ask is that they at least beat those fools. I cannot stand the Heat.
