Darnold outta here?

The only reason that makes sense... is to be going after a veteran qb(trade for a Lamar etc)with a cap hit. It seems if we going for a rookie qb, we might as well keep that young player. No need in losing talent to cover up the dumb mistake of extending Sam last year.

That ship sunk and is at the bottom of the ocean now guy. You may have to stick with him to a new team.

Which leads to the question of who's willing to take him and his salary?

That's what you've got to answer before any of this happens.

I know the picks and 5th year option are already a sunk cost, but why not keep Darnold on the roster as a backup?  We're going to pay someone to take the guy we paid to get last year?  Its only a 1 year deal.  Might as well get a warm body on the depth chart out of it.

I have a feeling that's gonna be the most likely outcome, even if it's not the one the Panthers really want.

Who? I can't imagine they'd be willing to give away a starter just to pick up $18M in cap space when we already have the most in the league.

Maybe someone like Troy Pride? Daviyon Nixon? MAYBE Terrace Marshall Jr, but even that would be pretty steep.

What the hell do we need all this cap space for?

Still need a QB1 with or without Sam. None of the rookies are ready to be a QB1. Other than guaranteeing Sam’s year 5, the other big mistake the Panthers made last year is not having any QB competition. They get rid of Sam they need two QB’s.

Start with the teams that have the most cap space and go from there. If we are offering compensation there will be a few willing to listen. At this point it should start clicking for fans that they don't want him here even as a backup. They want him out of the building. That speaks for itself.
