From the sounds of it the Niners are in the midst of some serious buyer's remorse.

I heard that too. When you trade a player for THAT much, you must be right..... cannot be wrong.

Got a good question- For S&G, just say 49ers make the call to the panthers and say they want to trade a QB for the 6th overall pick. That QB is Trey Lance, what do you say?

When Fields was available our stupid staff thought Darnold was the answer. They have since realized that was wrong.

Ironically....Fields, Lawrence, and Wilson are arguably the three QBs who were as bad or worse than Darnold last year.  Maybe we should wait for these rookies to actually do something before we get too triggered about missing out on them.

Hell no. It's a huge red flag to be willing to cut bait on a top pick after only one year, much less one you've mortgaged the future of your franchise on to acquire.

that stupid urine stained franchise has made, or tried to make, like a dozen moves over the last like 7 years just to specifically screw us.

i don’t get how anyone could sit back and be like “haha I hope they get a franchise QB! Well be just fine with our DOMINATE olines!”

Nobody is saying that. Its just that most of us don't really believe there is a franchise QB to be had in this draft. And if a division rival is mortgaging their future on what many of us believe is likely a miss then I would assume we are all good with that.

In all likelihood, Pickett is the best QB in this draft class. And that doesn't get anyone excited. Willis, while a physical freak, is at best a long term project but I will be pretty surprised to see him turn into a quality starting QB.

My favorite QB prospect is Corral but I wouldn't touch him as high as #6. I just don't think any of these guys are game changers. So yeah, personally I hope the Saints continue to piss away picks to blow on one of them.

The Eagles may have made the smart move here. If these picks aren't protected. This isn't a deep class especially in key skill positions.

The Saints go into the season with no strong QB and no Sean Payton. They could end up with a much better than 16 pick in a deeper class.

If Hurts doesn't show improvement in year 2 you can bundle two picks next year and move up. If he does meet potential you can start building a WR group from a greater selection. I think it's still too early to dismiss Hurts but having these picks will certainly help if he's not the answer.

The Saints will really have to hit on these two picks from this year. They won't have the the depth of picks to bolster their roster in the coming years. This is the kind of deal that could get a GM in trouble.

the window for the panthers to screw around, “prepare the roster,” and wait for the ideal prospect to suspiciously fall to them is closed.

the future of the division is very much slipping out of their fingers right now. They need a legitimate option at QB and they need one now, and it doesn’t really matter what grade Henry Huddler gave to So and So in his Ultimate Mock 14.0

Do you think that drafting another Sam Darnold/Teddy Bridewater is the answer? lmfao

Do we need a QB? Yes. Does that mean you should reach for a QB? Please...

You want a QB. So do I. But you have to base these decisions in reality. Good news for you is a don't trust this staff to do that.

Thats what you are not getting, there is not "legitimate option at qb" in this draft.  Trying to force a square peg into a round hole will just prolong this suckitude.  We need to be patient and correct the poo mistakes of the past 3 years

No, drafting a bust won't help us. But neither would drafting a bust of an OT or any other position.

Interesting note: Josh Allen and Lamar Jackson were also in that draft class and were picked later in the 1st. No one would mind picking a guy like that.

Why would you make any picks for picks trades in the weeks leading up to the draft before seeing who's available? This is honestly baffling.

I think they are looking 2 years ahead and they like the talent vs. their contract situations then.  They may want a QB next year if Hurt does not play well, for example, and this gives them the capital to move up--my guess.

Look, I agree with the sentiment. And I wont pitch a fit if we do take a QB because we have to at some point. But I am more making the point that there is a counter argument. A lot of people believe this is a poor QB class. And if our staff believes that then I don't want them taking one based solely on need.

Personally, I think the class next year has numerous prospects ahead of this years class. If we could get a long term LT this year then that is what I would do. But I am typically a Panthers optimist. If we draft a QB then I will absolutely rally behind him. But suggesting that passing on a QB at 6 is stupid is silly  to me. It seems nearly a consensus across the league that these QBs are only being talked about as 1st round prospects because it is a very weak class at the position. Idgaf how good Willis looks physically, I said last season I wouldn't touch Lance that high and I wouldn't touch a QB from Liberty that high either.

    • I had forgotten how shady the Patriots really were. Sheesh.
    • Its worse because the NFL would never allow all the teams to join the NFC East or something.  There's a firm divisional structure with a salary cap to make it competitive.
    • Practice tweets/news from today (will post videos in the next cpl of posts if there are any worthwhile): K Ryan Fitzgerald now wearing #10. QB Hendon Hooker has #12. WR Dalevon Campbell has #81. RB DeeJay Dallas was in #1 but it's currently a practice-only number as he was playing the part of Jag's RB Travis Etienne on the scout team (his real number is #20). WR Jalen Coker walked out with a compression sleeve on his left leg. Later seen on the bike. LG Damien Lewis not wearing the red practice jersey anymore, should be full go for Thursday. LT Ikem Ekwonu was at practice but not dressed out as he recovers from an appendectomy. Worked out on the sideline with Jalen Coker + RB Jonathon Brooks. WRs Tetairoa McMillan, Xavier Legette, and Hunter Renfrow were all exempt from special teams practice. Likely three starters for Thursday. OT Yosh Nijman got the first looks at LT today. During the post-practice presser, Canales said that there was a lot of good energy today and that offense won the 1-on-1s which included a 40yd throw from Bryce Young to Xavier Legette early to "set the tone" (per Canales). Also stated that Icky is currently day-to-day. Commented on having a training plan for Coker this passed offseason and that he did a great job following it (though the quad issue is one he has had in the past). Renfrow's locker is between Dalton and Hooker (left) and Young (right). Sounds like they're trying to get Renfrow on the same page as the QBs in this offense to replace AT's role as that second set of "QB eyes" on the field. Icky talked about his symptoms that led to his surgery and mentioned that his dad, a physician, was who got him to go. Won't rush himself back, but hasn't ruled out playing Sunday. Renfrow said he had others, but he was either going to play for the Panthers or not at all. Said Bryce called him during the process and that when he was released the team mentioned that the Thielen trade might be coming. Got the news while picking up a trailer at his other job. Also said that Canales told him that he didn't think that he was physically ready yet but wanted him back on the practice squad. The Coker injury changed the calculus.
