Tony Pauline: people in league circles believe that the #Panthers will select LT Charles Cross

This is an asinine statement.  Of course Rhule will play the best players.

You sure about that?  See how he absolutely refused to play Brady Christensen at LT all year when he was clearly the best we had?  Also, did you see how bad the whole OL was?

Or draft a QB that can run...............................................for his life.

Icky or Neal drop and I’m down. I’ve seen Cross all over the place on draft boards. If Icky and Neal are gone (and the probably will be), I think it’s wide open. Wide open means even a *gasp* QB! BC, Brown, Bozeman, Corbett, and Moton should be an improvement in the OL worst case scenario.

I think we can trade back a few spots and still land Cross.  If no QBs are gone, Seattle may jump.  I don't think any other team is LT desperate other than the Saints and I don't think we trade back that far (#16) in that's the case.

Cross is an early-to-mid round prospect.  He'd be a great value if we trade back and got him in the early teens.  Picking up an extra pick in the 2nd or 3rd round wouldn't hurt either.

If we can trade down and get Cross, I’ll be happy! Cross at 6 seems a bit high to me…

Ikey better in the run game, still needs some work in pass pro. Cross kinda the opposite, technician in pass pro but not really a mauler in the run game. If we could trade back and get Cross and a 2nd round pick I'd be down. Running mock drafts there's a lot of good talent on day 2, we picked a bad year to trade away our 2nd's and 3rd's

Agreed his stock is a bit broader than Neal or Ekwonu, but #6 is about where it starts.  Slightly rich, but not a reach per se. He comes from a pass happy offense, so his run blocking skills need polishing.

I’ve said it before. A lot of the fan+media hype train has driven up Ekwonu when he’s actually quite sloppy. Penning and Cross may indeed be ahead of him on team boards. Doesn’t make him bad or anything. Ekwonu is a top talent, but the team scout reality is different than this top-6 assumption for him and Neal.
