Sounds like we are the only team seriously talking to them about him though.  So, I imagine one of these days soon, Mayfield will be a Carolina Panther. Which I am not totally against.  Better him than Sam.  I doubt Corral will be ready to go from Day 1....and NOBODY wants to see Darnold start another game in Charlotte ever.

Fug it bring him in I guess. Better than the current alternative.

Pretty much my thoughts, as long as we don't trade anything more than a 5th rounder for him.

I am fully aware of the anti-Baker contingent and why they don't want him. At this point, I don't care about the future of the position nor do I care about the future cap implications since we have an idiot running the show. As a fan, I just want something interesting. At least Baker Mayfield starting would genuinely be something interesting to see again.

Honestly, minus that and maybe seeing if we landed a franchise LT.....there is absolutely ZERO interesting things about our current roster. It's all been seen before and in disastrous fashion. I just want to watch something to make me have passing interest.

Do we have a quote on that? I was very curious about how that broke down.

They were just talking about it on WFNZ.  Said they were hearing that from multiple sources.  Willie P, who is on for The Morning show, covers the MLS team and has his sources in the building in general.  Also piggy backed on it saying he’s heard that.

said what they’re hearing kind of aligns with Fitty’s Seattle background who was notorious for taking Swing after Swing for QBs until they landed Russ.

I dont know about saying its Fitterer that wants him but I do know it has came out in the past couple of days that Rhule was leaning towards going with Darnold and Corral.

So apparently

Fitty is pushing for Baker and wants him.

but Rhule seems to want to stick with what we have in the QB room.  And not pursue a Baker.

Well if that's the case you go with the obvious because Rhule has had two shots at QB. Let Fitterer run the show.

Very interesting indeed. I honestly would have guessed the reverse scenario.

IMO, if this move does happen and Rhule is anti-Baker(which we also don't 100% know is true) it is the first concrete indication that Rhule has lost final personnel decision power.

That would be a huge shift.

Yeah, I wondered if that was just pure BS, though. You can't expect him to get up and gut his guys this early in the offseason. That's a mid-season Rhule move.

The  fact is options for where the Browns can trade Mayfield are seemingly slim. The Panthers may not be ruled out as of yet, but drafting Corral certainly makes it less likely.

The Seahawks are another team with a need at the QB position after trading Russell Wilson this offseason to Denver, but there hasn’t been much noise about any interest in Mayfield.

Other than those two, it becomes difficult to locate a place where Mayfield would be wanted or needed at least with an opportunity to start.

Although I haven't heard any talk about it Tampa Bay would be a good fit for Mayfield who could step in as starting QB when Tom Brady who could suddenly decide to retire again hangs it up.

and I wouldn’t just brush off this Jonathan Alexander report.

he you to Cover the team here starting out.  And he Still has plenty of connections here.  He recently just got hired as CBS’s sports leading NFL insider (essentially CBS’s version of Adam Schefter or Ian Rappaport)

If we don't make a move for Baker and we suck with Darnold/Corral I gotta think that finally cooks Rhule's goose with Tepper. If we do trade for Baker and we still suck out loud just clean house completely.

It's what you have to do. This would be somewhat reminiscent of the Seahawks signing Matt Flynn then drafting Wilson in the 3rd. We drafted Corral in the 3rd and them we'd be trading for Mayfield. That gives you two viable options in house without huge investments in either.

    • OL then RB would make heads explode but its might not be too unlikely
    • Wonder if we draft a RB. Seems like a lot of eggs in Brooks’ basket right now.  And the OL, no kidding. If that running game goes to hell with what we have at QB, you can forget competing. It is so much more important than sticking another wideout on the field. Take your wideout later.
    • I have lots of different thoughts on it. This argument, the primary thing is I don’t like seeing him or anyone, being convicted on hearsay and/or pure speculation. Which some are doing.  I don’t care That much about defending Morgan as I do about the criticism being fair minded.    You sort of assert that Dan was just a yes man. I don’t think we know if he ever pushed back against Fitterer but I have this instinct thing that needs me to satisfy the question of: if Tepper was so down on a Fitterer as to fire him, why in the world would he hire his carbon copy? I guess maybe he wanted a yes man.Like I said, lots of different thoughts.     I am just not gonna judge him that harshly based only on speculation. I am sticking with what he has done starting when he was hired as GM. Maybe I am more lenient because the first season for him and Canales, I gave both a pass. Said I would judge them after the first year. Stuck to it. If you can get to the reality that neither were ready for the job and say okay give them a year get their feet wet, it looks a lot better.    And we are not bound to Bryce yet. Yes, for yet another fuging year he can probably marginally improve and slide by like he has been doing. But if they add even more people and he regresses? I think we could see some relief.    The QB room? As I understand it, Pickett was Canales’ choice. If we need to blame people for poo. In a sense, he is very Bryce like. So makes a good plug in. I get that a little bit. We still have the draft. If they do better than Jake Plummer or Hooker I’ll know they are trying.
