Which current players would start on the 2015 team?

CMC, Moore, Moton.  That's all I'm putting onto the 2015 starting O.

*Depends what the starting formation is.  2 TE or do I have a slot WR.  Robbie is the slot WR if we use that as the starting formation.

DJ Moore, Robby Anderson, Shaq(technically cheating), Taylor Moton(no brainer), CMC(this was close).

I don't think Burns gets in over Charles Johnson or Jared Allen. I know he is a better pass rusher but that team was top 10 against the run and I think Burns hurts more than helps as a starter. Definitely think he'd be excellent as a bench player.

I couldn't put Ikey over Oher because we literally haven't seen him play.

I couldn't put Horn over Norman or Tillman because they had great years in that scheme. They weren't an issue at all.

Good argument could be made for Chinn over Harper but Chinn's struggles in coverage(still unresolved) could be a problem.

Tillman got hurt and we ended up with Cortland Finnegan and Robert McClain starting as the nickel and #2 corners. Probably safe to include Horn in there.

Regarding Harper, he was slow and lacked some athleticism by that point. Chinn might be a push at worst, but with his instincts and Coleman playing center field I think Chinn would be an upgrade in that SS-type role near the LOS that Harper often played.

WRs obviously. Ryan Kalil.

But who else?

Both OTs

probably Burns.

A healthy CMC?

Shaq Did start on that squad

i think Chinn starts over Roman Harper on that squad

Think Horn is talented enough to take the #2 CB from Peanut.

And that’s it.

Well the question was for the season, so I took it as season and not that game specifically, so I wouldn't take Horn. Not to mention, he is an almost completely unknown quantity versus a highly productive and extremely experienced guy in Tillman. He definitely wouldn't be starting over Josh Norman.

Harper was a tough one. I just went with veteran over a guy that is really still pretty raw and learning. Plus, Chinn is pretty ineffective in pass coverage, so that would be a concern. To me, more so in a one season timeline than Harper's waning effectiveness.

Rookie Icky over 2015 Oher?  2015 Oher was so very solid.

Basically rookie Horn over Peanut Tillman?

2015 isn’t going 15-1 and to the Super Bowl any longer when you start making a bunch of those type tweaks.    Giving up consistency and a high standard for raw developing talent.

    • I was watching a YouTube and it was said that scout and GM insider types were saying the NIL had killed rounds 4-7. I don’t know that I buy it, seems like it might for a year or maybe two but then those guys have to move on.  NCAA is apparently about to give 5 years of eligibility. It is gonna skew those entrants older maybe.
    • Miller being less raw and more pro ready makes sense of why they picked him. With us having a capable starter in Walker the lower floor higher ceiling player makes sense for us as well. I agree with that.
    • I'm from Michigan and have had this discussion with my Lions friends, and they all agree with me, they were never going to take Freeling over Miller.  As, yes, you are correct, they could have left Sewell at RT and taken Freeling, but they are in a SB contention window right now. An OL with Freeling at LT and Sewell at RT is not as strong as Sewell at LT and Miller at RT would be for this upcoming season and likely at least next year as well. 5 years it could be looked back upon as a long term "mistake" to take Miller over Freeling, but for a franchise like the Lions, you can't worry about the long term when you have current SB aspirations.  It's all about maximizing their current SB window over the next 1-3 years. And it's not about style, it's about day 1 readiness, and a lot of "experts" aren't even sure if Freeling is ready to play Week 1 yet at the position he's used to, let alone switching to a side he hasn't played before, but a career starting RT is going to be more than ready to fill that role for them Week 1. I'm 100% convinced that if our draft positioning was swapped, we'd have still taken Freeling, they'd have still taken Miller, and both teams would have got the OT that they preferred due to what each team needs right now and what their current realistic aspirations are for the 2026 season. We're in a position where we can let our drafted OT sit and learn for a bit, they needed a week 1 starter, for me that's where this discussion becomes very easy to understand why each team took the player they did.
