Why does this staff think it can take other teams qbs and make them good?  This is the 3rd time now that we have gotten a poo qb that has had numerous staffs that couldnt change them.  Where in the fug does rhules confidence come from?  This is insane

Baker is good and has the potential to be great. Why does everyone on here need to be so freaking negative?

I will root for him, and the team will be better this year because of him. But long term I think this hurts. We were free and clear to cut Rhule and Darnold after this season, all the while probably picking top 5.

Baker isn’t the long term answer and now I’m not sure we will find a legitimate one in the draft.

All blind hope.

They will ruin Matt Corral, his desire, confidence. The kid knows he's better than they're treating him.

I didn't want us to trade to Baker, but if all it takes is having Baker on the team in 2022 to "ruin Corral, his desire, confidence", then Corral was never gonna be a franchise guy anyway. Franchise QBs are made of sterner stuff.

I do think having Baker and Sam on the roster will severely slow Corral's development. That's the issue.

Here's my thinking: Rhule really needs to declare a starter before the August 13th game. That's just a little over a month away. August 13th is the second preseason game. That's the "dress rehearsal" game. Ideally, you'd like your starter in place by that point. And I hate to break to you, but Sam is going to look good in training camp. He's a better athlete than Baker--bigger, faster, and stronger. With no pass rush to deal with, he won't hit the panic button you see in live action.

That makes a tough decision for Rhule and the staff. My concern is TC camp reps will get split 50/50 between Sam and Baker in the QB competition. That leaves very few reps for Corral to develop.

Once the regular season starts, nearly all the reps go to the starter. This again leaves few reps for Corral.

Now, maybe the "competition" talk is just that, talk and Baker is the guy. Or maybe they move Sam before TC. If that changes, it will change how I feel, but how I feel today can't be based on maybe.

Speaking objectively...

This is a really well administered trade when you look at what we gave up and what we're paying.

Speaking personally...

I'm not a Baker Mayfield fan, but I'll hope for the best.

These are my thoughts on this.

We have made our QB room better.

I know this upsets the fans that don't want us to win at all this season, but I don't give a fug for anyone that wants us to lose.

They want to bring him on slowly anyway.. He was a developmental project when we drafted.. Getting 2nd or 3rd QB reps for a full season is what they wanted when they drafted him.. It doesn't hurt his development if it was the plan all along...

You've made my point. Totally agree. There will be few reps for Corral with the starters, nobody grows on the bench. Matt was groomed to be a QB1. He believes it. He wants it. He worked just as hard or maybe harder than Sam and Baker, both failed experiments.

The Browns KNOW Baker is not getting you anywhere. Don't you think THEY hoped and wished for something that just wasn't true? Let's not be delusional. The Jets KNEW Sam would never progress, both are very very flawed. Neither should be playing ahead of Corral as failures. Neither has an ounce of upside left.  What's the message? Be horrible at your job get 19mill? Bad business.

Sam, who sucks and Baker, who sucks were given the opportunity as rookies. Go back to last year and all the pundits were calling for Corral to be a first rounder. What changed? What really changed?

I just think Corral deserves the opportunity. I believe he's much more dynamic, a faster release, a faster thinker/reaction and a better leader of men than both of those failures. Matt Corral can say he lead a team to more wins than they imagined.

Sam? Baker? Losses. They know losing.

The Panthers are too busy taking out the trash for bottom dwellers like the Jets and Browns instead of doing what's best. What's best is putting the past behind us and finally beginning the future at QB. Kicking the can and hooking up another buddy or another buddies boy reeks of good ol' boy non merit based decisions.

Sam always looks good in practice/theory but his stats and success rate are always horrible. Baker is like the Browns have said, too short, too slow, too cocky.

I can't applaud this move. It delays the work that needs to be done NOW.

Marginally better and thats even debatable.

I dont want us to lose, I want us to have a plan.  And trading for this dumb dumb on a year contract isnt a plan.

Yep. I love how people are acting like Corral was a top 10 pick who is ready to go week one. If he can’t beat out Baker and Sam in training camp, then let him sit and learn. If we have the next great QB in Corral, sitting and waiting won’t hurt him (see Rodgers and Mahomes).

It`s so dumb the NFL allowed DBs and LBs to have QB numbers.

Some of those will clear up once we're down to a regular season roster limit.

The Panthers are going to want that settled quickly though. There's jerseys to sell.

    • Hmmm... not a good start. Maybe I'm reading too much into this but after the guy who has been carrying your offense expresses frustration with his sudden lack of use and your HC just blows it off and confirms they haven't even talked, your PR team decides to use the guy who should be his backup as their poster boy hyping this week's game? Yikes. Hard not to interpret that as another slap in the face.
    • For some reason this is becoming a disturbing trend in the NFL. Teams are shutting down one part of their offense without causation from the opposition. Shane Steichen did it an overtime loss against Kansas City last week with the best back in the NFL. Pete Carroll allowed Chip Kelly to completely abandon the run game against Dallas the week before he was fired in Oakland as the OC. Matt Lafleur abandoned the pass instead choosing to rely on a bottled up run game when we clearly were having issues with the passing game. Big brain play callers some of them HCs are what the league wanted along with high powered offense and these dudes are making some of the dumbest situational calls I've ever seen. At least most of them are young and can learn, Canales included. I remember Norv Turner trying to throw the ball around the yard in a certain SuperBOWL, going in at halftime down 13-6. Emmitt Smith said get me the d*mn ball and took over in the 2nd half. Remember Kyle Shanahan in the 2nd half vs. the Patriots? This shite happens to the best and the brightest. We are just actively seeing it play out in real time just like Atlanta and Dallas fans before us.  Also, not saying Canales is going to become either of those, just begging/hoping for our sanity he gets his shite together if he's going to be our HC.
