How Many of Rhule's Bear-Owls make the final 53?

Tecklenburg, Barnes, Chandler, Frankllin, Kirkwood, Thompson and Walker.

Based on this list:

Barnes makes it as a gunner / 5th or 6th corner

Chandler over Robinson due to ''Patriots Week'' as the addition of Woods moves Burris to depth and pushes Robinson out.

Franklin is ST, LB, and SS depth so he makes it as the 4th / 5th safety depending on how they split DB / S.

Kirkwood is cut, and if PS eligible will go there.

Thompson is cut.

With Corral out of the mix I think we finally see PJ cut with Sam as the backup for a cool 18.8M.

IF somehow we find a way to eat salary / move Sam for a lowball pick PJ sticks around.

I don't think we keep 11 DBs.  Plus, even if we do only keep two QBs, I think the extra spot goes to a WR.  The guys on the bubble at WR have more potential impact for the team than an extra corner.

Based on below, I dont think it is too far fetched. The team has been focusing on have a strong special teams this year, and that secondary depth will prove to be very helpful. Let me know if I missed anyone on the list.

Note: I think some of these deep depth players will get swapped out with FA signings.

DJ, RA, Higgins, Shi, Zylstra then TMJ absolutely needs to get on the practice field.

I would cut Roberts to keep Smith. Smith can return and as a receiver he has legit potential.

As far as QB goes. The Corral injury may change their plans and maybe they keep Sam now. If not PJ will be the backup like he was always going to be and they’ll continue to try and offload Sam.

I agree almost entirely.  I don't see keeping 11 DBs while only keeping 6 LBs.  I think we pick up a DE after cuts.  We are really thin there.  I'd also like to acquire another IOL and LB after cuts too.

Franklin, chandler and Barnes belong on the football team. I don’t care what college they went to. Franklin is probably our best special teams player now that Luvu has moved into the starting lineup. Chandler is solid depth at. Fs and SS. Barnes has potential and would get snagged if he went to the practice squad.

Agreed for the most part.  If they choose someone over Barnes I believe he was slip through waivers and make the PS, at least initially.

Oops forgot Saunders.

He has a legit shot. I mentioned last year that Saunders is Rhule’s boy so I expect him to try to keep him around

I still think PJ winds up on the practice squad and we only keep 2 QBs.

100%. Rhule isn't going to totally wash his hands of PJ, but PJ was not going to make this 53 man roster even before the Corral injury.

I think the plan all along was to cut PJ and try to resign him to the PS.

Corrals injury just means Baker and Sam will be the only 2 QBs on the 53 man roster IMO

Good list except I could see them keeping 7 WRs and only 10 DBs.

Agree with others there is a chance we make a waiver claim (and/or sign after week 1) for an offensive/defensive lineman. I guess I could still see a move at LB but I think we are better there than I thought before TC and preseason

    • A winning record would be nice, but I still have us winning around the 6 to 8 game mark. Realistically we should beat the Jets and Saints, that gets us to 5 wins. After that, we have to face a lot of potential play off teams and our divisional opponents. I think we’ll win 1 or 2 of those games to take us to 6 or 7 wins, perhaps 8 wins if we can spring a further surprise.  Is that enough progress for head coach and QB? I’m not sure, it will depend on performances and output. That said, it’s nice to be back in a position where we are thinking about the play offs.
    • I would tend to agree about not falling into the trap and paying a below average QB, but sometimes situations can “force” a team to pay that QB. For example, if we play ourselves into a 9-8 like record, then what options will we have in the draft? Or do we avoid the draft and trade for or sign someone in free agency?  I’m not convinced by the 2026 QB draft class. There’s some intriguing prospects but no one that really screams “draft me”. I’m not sure we’ve got anyone really that stands out as a trade candidate or free agent signing. So although we might not want to commit a big money contract to Young, him playing well and showing progress might force the team’s hand.
    • Realistically we would be looking at no more than a mid round pick for Dowdle or Chuba. Are we really that desperate for a mid round pick? Not really. I would much prefer us utilise the two RBs in a 1-2 punch similar to how we used D-Will and Stewart. After all, Bryce is not Drew Brees. He won’t throw for 300+ yards and carry the team consistently as a passer. So having a strong running game with a 1-2 punch will be beneficial to him, and it will also be beneficial to the RBs because we can spell them and not overwork them.
