Who could Wilks call for help?

Suppose current OC Ben McAdoo continues to not be able to cut the mustard? Where could interim head coach Steve Wilks turn for help?

Obviously, you can't install a new offensive system in the middle of the season. That would leave Wilks searching for an on-staff replacement, with quarterback coach Sean Ryan likely being the only viable option.

But if Wilks we're to, say, reach out to someone who could come on board as a consultant to maybe call plays or assist in some other fashion, who would some of the options be?

Looking back at his history, the following names present themselves...

Norv Turner, Retired, Former Panthers OC

Turner and Wilks have worked together twice, first in San Diego then with Carolina. Norv would be readily available (as long as his wife agrees).

Jim Skipper, Retired, Former Panthers RB Coach

Skipper and Wilks we're on the Panthers staff together for a bit and he's been an OC before.

Freddie Kitchens, Senior Analyst, University of South Carolina

Kitchens has a consultant type role already at the college level. He and Wilkes were together in Cleveland along with OL Coach James Campen.

Rob Chudzinski, Special Assistant to the Head Coach,  Boston College

Another current college consultant, and an acquaintance of Wilks from their Charger days.

Todd Haley, Head Coach, Tampa Bay Bandits (USFL)

Haley was let go from the Browns and replaced with Kitchens. He's technically got a full-time job but this is his offseason.

Not a great best, but not a terrible one either.

Mind you, there are other potentially better options but most of them are currently employed elsewhere in the NFL.

Can't say I really expect anything like this to happen, but there are options at least.

Steve Logan is in Raleigh I believe.

Was on offensive staffs with Tampa Bay and San Fran. I believe he was an OC in NFL Europe amongst other things.

He's considered a QB whisperer. Elevated Matt Ryan and the ECU guys.

Biggest failure, was brought in to Fix Kaepernick  and couldn't do it

I think they are going to borrow a line from Fox and say the answer is already in the building.  I don’t think a whole new offense is being installed or anything such as that but some philosophy and tenacity will change I hope.  Do I expect them to win?  No, but I hope there will be an attitude that has not been present for a while.

Hopefully Wilks told him we need more runs and play actions and less RPO's and quick slants. That poo was not fooling anyone. Wilks doesn't need to be an offensive genius, but he can basically explain to McAdoo what D's are seeing and why this poo isn't working.

He should call Cam Newton and run it back. May seem irrational at first, but there's no way a Cam led offense would look this bad. Our team is here because of the way we treated our franchises greatest Quarterback. This is Karma

    • No, he has a long way to go to be that--I think he is probably referring to his ceiling--I think Legette has more room to grow from where he is that those more polished WRs.  When you look at his potential, it presents an argument that is not so one sided.  Of those three, only Odunze had a higher RAS score 9.92.  XL had a 9.90.  Malik Nabors had a 9.67.  Harrison Jr.  did not have one.  I am not sure that Legette has not overcome more obstacles to be where he is, and if you consider his adversity, his story might be more incredible, even though he is only a second tier rookie right nowm with Mitchell, Thomas, Pearsall, and maybe McConkey.  I am going from memory-but you have to think of things as a kid-when he was 16, his mother died of breast cancer.  When he entered S Carolina, his father died.  They had some issues and QB problems and the OL was terrible in Columbia---the others you mentioned?  None of that family drama, and they played at Washington, Ohio State, and LSU.  Huge difference.  I am proud of him as a man--when all his chips were on the table--when he had no more chances, he broke through and became a first round draft pick.  A school with a losing record, mediocre QB, and bad OL.  Mentally, he was struggling through the losses of both parents.  Amazing story.  Is he as good as those three who played at top universities?  Not yet.
    • Nice contribution.  Appreciate it. I have seen him on interviews, and I just like the kid.  He breaks so many molds and stereotypes, I doubt trying to put a label on his is going to work.  I think he can be special.  During his presser he was talking about riding horses and doing wildlife stuff.  This came to mind:  Lil Nas XL
