We might be dealing with a more lucid version of late stage Al Davis.

If Tepper starts calling the field to dictate plays then we need to start working on a good frame job. That is a big step in the wrong direction.

The fact that he actually sounded a bit humbled/defeated at times during his press conference gives me a small sliver of hope that he might get something right this time, if only by accident. I'm hardly counting on it, but it's a sliver more than I had in the recent past.

I’d attribute that to having to stand in front of a national media to take questions about his failures.

I would caution against assuming he’s been “humbled”. He sounded more than ready to bite back at the press, but appeared to be restraining himself.

The $100,000 question is who has Tepp’s ear, and what are they going to tell him?

Tepper humbled?

Read this........

...and if there is any validity to it.........Charlotte and the Panthers are in for a ride and it's not going to be pretty.

I think the end of the presser showed the real Tepper.  Beginning of it was him playing the role he was prepped to display.

Did he sound humbled and defeated at the end of the presser?

Issue with Tepper is he isn't going to sell the team and he is the one person we are stuck with.   So while he probably is problem #1 he is one problem we can't expect to change any time soon.   We need a good HC/GM combo.  Simple as that.  A combo that can deal with a bad owner and mitigate it.

Honestly he comes off as shrewd and smart there.  Can not blame him for taking advantage of an obvious opportunity.  And I am no tepper fan

He sounded like someone who just pissed away 70 million

He sounded that way when he was sticking to the script. The longer he went and the more frustrated he got the more he seemed like the same old cocky asshole.

No real disagreement on any of this, and perhaps humility is a strong word, but the anger and bullheadedness at the end doesn't have to solely reflect his approach to team management. Perhaps as a more cynical take, we can maybe hope that his pride has been stung enough and that he wants to be publicly lauded enough that he follows an actual NFL process when looking for the next coach.

Ok, I've just got to say, as fans we have an emotional and most times a financial investment to our teams. I certainly do. But, there's a couple ways to look at the Panthers current ownership. One we can come to the realization that Tepper is here like it or not and hope the guys on the the field play at a high level and win. Or-complain, which is our right to do. Remember most owners are not "Mother Teresa".  Look , for example at Georgia Frontiere , she was the former owner of the LA/St. Louis Rams. Was a "socialite" (whatever that is) who married the former owner Carroll Rosenbloom. Rams fans remember her as a complete buffoon but somehow they won the Lombardi. Or Jack Kent Cooke former Washington owner during their glory years, who was an alleged wife beater and one of his subsequent wives was the former mistress of a Columbian cartel bigwig.....sweethearts all around.

    • We have taken two TEs in three seasons I think, and Sanders may not pan out or it may have been a sophomore slump, but we took a guy last year that was coming on.  I am not in favor of TE in round one and really don’t consider it a high priority in any round.
    • Trevon Moehrig, Turk Wharton, Bobby Brown, Jaelen Phillips, Devin Lloyd, Nic Scourton Giving him 6 starters in 2 offseasons that cost boat loads of money or a 2nd round pick... Not exactly handing the man scraps. The point of the draft is to make the team better. You want to make this about Bryce. It isn't. It's about improving the team. And if anyone can look at our offense and go "we're good", they are lying to themselves. You give quarterbacks weapons. We SCREAMED for YEARS to give Cam some help. But now because we are trying to do it for Bryce, you all are saying we are coddling him because of his "deficiencies". It's a double-standard because you don't like the guy, clearly. But even if he does fail, guess what? The next guy has help too. Win-win.
    • we have 2 solid/above average (however you want to phrase that) wr's, which is more than half the league at least.  We dont need to be blowing more first round capital just to placate Bryce and his limitations.   We have one absolute stud (probably top 10 wr) in tmac and we have a high floor guy with insane potential if he can stay healthy.  Yeah man we are in better shape than the bulk of the teams in the league.  If you need to add some speed or whatever, sure draft in the mid rounds or wait until tc cuts.  Its monumentally stupid to spend 3 straight firsts on a wr if thats the route they go.  ITs just more and more excuses for Bryce, thats where we are at now.    "How can bryce succeed without a big possession type wr (drafts 2 for him), how is bryce supposed to exceed without a speed guy......."   Its fuging never ending.  Give EE some goddamn help on defense for once
