Someone recently compared Panthers exec Steven Drummond's influence to Easterby's (still not buying that) but Easterby himself is out.

I could see Drummond being similar on some levels.  He might not be the toxic figure Easterby is....but he could still be way overpowered in the org given his background.

From everything I heard about Easterby then it is a great move for them. I am shocked their owner did this because he seemed like a great fit there, not good but fit. What is next Kiem gets fired along with Clingsberries? Bad NFL owners doing good things? Craziness

The basic comparison is that he's a guy influencing major football decisions despite having pretty much zero football background.

And toxic or not, it is fair to point out he played a big role in the hiring of Matt Rhule.

Does make you wonder if Rhule's colossal failure has any effect on his status.

I would imagine it might.  I think Rhule was a such a dumpster fire that I would imagine it is a sore spot with Tepper.

and Drummond isn't a Tepper guy.  He is another hold over from the prior era.  Pretty much the last one of note.

Valid. We'd heard Tepper trusted him a lot (having him be part of the coaching search validated that).

But now? 😕

I think Tepper would be best served to purge any holdovers from the prior era that are either not a good fit or don’t have sufficient NFL experience. We need more “football people” making decisions not JAGs.

WTF, just when I thought Tepper couldn't possibly get any stupider this comes out. What a disaster this team is under Tepper. I honestly do wonder if he's intentionally running it into the ground so Charlotte/NC don't give him money for a new stadium and he can move the team. The soccer thing was so he can divert the blame saying he wanted to be here long term but the city/state gave him no choice. What a piece of sh*t this dude is.

    • All I can say is... I have some happiness off the rags choking and losing to the Panthers. Hopefully the Western conference team wins the Stanley cup, but now I can be 100% uninvested in the playoffs
    • Yep. It was an obvious red flag that a lot of people ignored. The results/scores in preseason don’t matter, but individual performance very much does and individually, we looked like the least talented team in the league and it carried over.
    • Sorry, but in 2015, we didn’t look like poo to the extent of 2023. People who said it’s just preseason were completely wrong. Simple as that. 2015 was a veteran lead team. It was Cam’s 5th year and Luke’s 4th. Even our OL was 80% the same (added Oher) as the great run to finish 2014 with a playoff win. That year can be labeled as preseason doesn’t matter because I’m sure we rested vets and well, Ron/Mike weren’t putting in special plays, etc. I absolutely don’t recall a bunch of us saying that Turner was getting killed on one on ones or that Luke was completely out of position or that Norman was hurt again but probably fine. The only thing that was right about the 2023 preseason is that the minority of us who saw it, were correct that we A) should have been making Young and others play 100% of the reps as there was nothing to hide and B) the preseason means nothing was a bunch of BS trying to stay optimistic when it was obvious that we had way less good talent than the rest of the NFL.
