I never understood this argument. If I buy a $50 item from you for $100, did you make a bad deal with me just because you decide to use the 100 to buy a $10 item?

Money is a bad a analog for draft picks.  You can buy all kinds of things with money but draft picks only hold value for few select things involving a football team.

We aren’t simply “tanking” as we are ditching the bad contracts and taking the dead cap hit on the chin this year. We need the picks right now to add young, cheap pieces around our rookie QB. I feel like we are going to still be better next season (Better QB play, better HC/OC, young OL gets better, still pieces on defense in Chinn, Horn, Burns, and Brown) while also using it to develop a rookie QB and have our HC implement his system.

After that we have a shitload of cap space with hopefully our QB on a rookie deal and our OL all in place. That’s where you want to be to complete your roster and make a run.

I don't see this as a tank, we certainly didn't come into the year looking to tank. It just so happens the team is so bad that we are in that conversation. I think it's overwhelmingly clear that if we didn't win we needed to shake things up. This is the shake up, and a different path to changing our landscape. If it works, you will see vastly improved team next year. But if you were hoping for some major turn around this year because we fired Rhule and started PJ Walker then you need to take off the rose colored glasses and face the reality of this team.

Tanks aren't easy.  There were 3 coaches with HC experience on staff.   We chose the only one who had successfully tanked before.

When asked if Wilks could turn it around, Tepper laughed and then caught himself.

We fired staff from the two performing units (ST and D)  but kept all of the O staff.  Everyone here agrees that our O was the problem.

We kneed out 3 times and went into half time with all 3 time outs last week.  Our average depth of target was NEGATIVE.

We just traded away our best player, and arguably the best player in all of football when healthy.  And those of you who value him only as a RB didn't watch last weeks game cause he ran a bunch at WR.

The FO and Tepper are trying to tank.   Wilks may not think he's tanking and may screw the whole thing up, but the FO is clearly trying to tank.  Even the media is outright asking about a tank in the pressers.

No matter how hard a team tries to tank and secure the #1 spot, almost always, some other team(s) manage to do a better job of stinking up the joint without trying.

The most recent tank job was the 2019 Miami Dolphins.  Hell, they even managed to start out 0-7.  Then a funny thing happened on their way to drafting Joe Burrow......they finished 5-4.  The purposeful tank job was good for a 5-11, which got them the #5 draft pick.  No matter how hard they tried, they could not outsuck the Bengals, Foreskins, Lions, and Giants.

People think purposely being the worst is easy, but it isn't.  The "on any given week" works both ways.  And if some team that had hope suddenly finds that hope is lost, they can just as easily outsuck a team that never had any or lost it even earlier.

Luckily, we have the "secret sauce" for a horrible season built in.  A roster assembled by coach for whom NFL stood for Not For Long (thanks, Jerry Glanville) resulting in a roster built around flawed premises, with only a few pieces that, despite that, have mastered their positions, a coaching staff of underachievers (or out-and-out rejects), and nary a QB to be found.

We don't even know for sure what is on the roster, because the coaching never put them into a position to succeed.  Some of the pieces may be, in the words of the mirror "objects may be closer than they appear" if they just get decent coaching or played in a scheme worthy of being on an NFL field.  Despite our best efforts, we may have actually assembled a good and young OL.

If anybody can do it, this team can but not because it is trying to hit bottom.

Purposely being the worst becomes a lot easier when PJ Walker is your starting QB 🤷‍♂️

Now imagine some team trying to purposely tank and competing for the bottom with a team not purposely trying to tank, but starting PJ Walker.

He is a major ingredient in the "secret sauce" I mentioned.
