Love Coach Leach. A gem and a guy who could describe paint drying and sound like Hemingway.

Also, you understand that these little post emojis don’t mean anything and have no value? You understand that right?

Then why waste your time doing it you fool? Very odd to use that emoji on a post about someone’s death.

Man. I try not to get too emotional about celebrity deaths, but this one stings.

The Pirate was one of my favorite dudes and made college football infinitely more interesting both on the field and off. An all-time quote machine.

RIP Mike; swing your sword in Heaven.

Im the other way, dont care.....but I do about the legend Mike Leach. True original and brilliant. Best sound bites in college. Always a huge fan of other who are able to much more with much less.

.........died Dec. 12 at a hospital in Jackson, Miss. He was 61.

The cause was complications from a heart condition, said Mississippi State University, which announced his death. Mr. Leach had been hospitalized after experiencing what the school described as a “personal health issue” at his Starkville, Miss., home Sunday.

Mr. Leach was one of the most colorful characters in college football, an offensive mastermind who also was known for his off-the-field interests in pirates, Daniel Boone, Jackson Pollock and Geronimo. He was in his third season at Mississippi State and was reportedly at practice as recently as Saturday, helping his 8-4 Bulldogs team prepare for its Jan. 2 bowl game against Illinois.

Unlike most of his peers, Mr. Leach never played a down in college. He had planned to become a lawyer and graduated from Pepperdine University’s law school before deciding he wanted to coach despite having only previously coached a Little League baseball team.

He went on to work as a head coach for 21 seasons, arriving at the office wearing flip-flops and shorts and invoking the metaphor of a pirate ship in conversations with his players. “Swing your sword,” he would tell them, using a phrase that also served as the title of his 2011 memoir.

Empowered by Mr. Leach, quarterbacks had the freedom to change every play and often set records for passing.
