Sounds familiar right? Welcome to the Panthers where we are going to win just enough to not get a great draft. Depending on how the next 3 weeks goes we have a 80% chance of staying exactly right there.

Certainly seems the Panthers have a history of finishing seasons in a position where they just miss the top cream of the crop talent in the NFL Draft.

Well, the good news for this is 3 of the 4 best young qb's in the NFL right now were not the first qb's picked in the draft, and were picked in positions 6-10.  Maybe by picking later we will be saved from picking the next Mitch Trubiski or Baker Mayfield.

Lawrence and Burrow both went first overall. How are they not two of your best young QBs in the NFL?

If we maintain the same pick position but somehow make it into the playoffs and heaven forbid, actually win a round, will our pick position be based on regular season or our final playoff position?

It’s based on Playoff position at that point. I believe if you make the playoffs the worst you can pick is 18th. And if you win the whole thing you pick last in the round.

It use to be that your record reflected your pick. They changed that years ago because shitty NFC West teams would go to the playoffs and still pick top 10. Now you get the bottom half if you make the playoffs. For us because we will win our division we would pick after all the wild card team.

Burrow has proved to be and Lawrence has finally gotten a decent coach so he can show he is as well.  If you haven't noticed there's not a lot of good young qbs in the league at the moment.

Lawrence has been the best QB in football since the beginning of November. I think we need to define what young is. Under what? 30? 28? I think there are a bunch of good young QBs in the NFL. I think the Brady and Rodgers type guys have finally fallen off.

We had a chance to get one of the best young QBs in the draft, but passed on him. It had set up so pretty...

The kid from now too far down the road in Georgia? Justin Fields? Who Tepper wanted? And is emerging as a young stud despite whatever Nagy was doing in year one?

And the year before we missed out on Herbert because of a late season “culture win” and yet our culture is no better. We need a QB.

    • Former league executive and current NFL.com analyst Marc Ross recently named his top second-year breakout candidates for the upcoming campaign. Ross includes Legette, who may be helped out by his team's latest first-round selection. He writes: Legette had a slow start to his NFL career, catching 49 passes for 497 yards and four touchdowns last season. Some of the struggles can be tied to his own growing pains -- he had eight drops on 81 targets, according to Pro Football Focus -- but he had also had to navigate the quarterback shuffle between Bryce Young and Andy Dalton early in Dave Canales' first season leading the Panthers. Canales recently said he believes Carolina has a DK Metcalf-like talent in Legette, who had foot surgery this offseason but was cleared to resume work in early April, and that having a full offseason alongside Young, who took a significant step forward in 2024, could lead to a breakout result in 2025. I anticipate it will also help that Carolina invested another first-round pick in a wide receiver, Arizona's Tetairoa McMillan, to complement Legette in the pass game. McMillan's presence, however, could take some pressure off Legette—who may be able to roam around in a more natural playmaking role. With the 6-foot-4 All-American likely to take on the bulk of the volume from Young, Legette should have some cleaner shots to break out downfield and in the box score.     https://pantherswire.usatoday.com/story/sports/nfl/panthers/2025/05/06/panthers-wr-xaiver-legette-top-breakout-candidates-2025/83475176007/?taid=681a4610ede05d000149b376&utm_campaign=trueanthem&utm_medium=trueanthem&utm_source=twitter
