Can Sam Darnold play himself into becoming the 2023 starter?

You're right.  It must've been some other poster named trueblade.

You must be very smart 'cause you suck at "playing dumb".

That was a misclick. I apologize. I had intended to use pie. I fixed it now, thanks for letting me know.

I was surprised because I don't use that poo emoji and I didn't see it in my activity. I guess I didn't go back far enough.

Is there an embarassment emoji reaction because now I feel bad for calling you out.  🥴

Regardless, I'll give you the benefit of the doubt.     It's all good.

When your LT completely misses and your QB gets blasted in 1.4 seconds that's not on Sam.

When your center snaps the ball early that's not on Sam.

He had a pick that was a good read he just missed the throw

Yeah the center snapping the ball too early was miscommunication that should never have happened.

The pick was him putting too much air on the ball.

I don’t think anyone on the board has proposed paying him starter money.  Cap friendly back up money only.

Exactly! I just want the Panthers to stop playing the waiting game at some point and take a shot on the QB in the first round! Or give Corral a shot cause i would love to see what we have in him!

Eyeball test on Darnold says he is looking really good. Most of even the best QBs miss throws, it just happens.

Top of my head I could remember about 4 throws that were off with the game still undecided. It was disappointing. When we went 2 scores down, its desperation mode. I stop questioning judgement then, so not talking about whatever good or bad was done.

I'll spare the why argument mostly but I don't think they should let him leave. I think he does have a future. Wilkes or not I think that.

5th year at 24 looking like it might be slowing down for him, I am starting to think. Do people think he cant be good because Rhule liked him or because he was not ever locked in with a stable system to grow in? Okay the latter has happened to guys. But he is still barely older than a number of guys coming out of school, still has what I think are some positives to lean on.

Lawrence looked like crap until he received proper coaching. I'd go for the best WR or rush end in the 1st

This is the Darnold we hoped to see when we traded for him. Should we forget about how bad he looked last year and look at his overall performance this year?  He didn’t sulk when losing his job and continued to work hard so he could be ready to take advantage of his opportunities. He has played really well and with more poise than ever.
I think Sam should be retained at least as a bridge quarterback while whomever is drafted this year and  Coral have a chance to develop. Sam has shown that he can play in the right situation with the right coaching and protection. He still struggles when protection isn’t there and makes poor decisions.  I think we may have already seen his ceiling, can make all the throws but inconsistent mentally to be a franchise QB. If he can somehow continue to develop that pary of his game he is still young enough. He has definitely saved his career.

Imagine how badly Baker looked in this offense and Darnold was able to flourish. Perhaps with the Rams or the 49ers he could be a top 10 QB. Darnold has proven he still can be a professional QB in the NFL.

Needless to say that trade with Jets looks a lot better than it did a couple of months ago. I know many Jets fans who wish they would have kept him instead of drafting Zach Wilson who looks like a total bust.

After what I saw today, he seems to be turning the corner.  I think I would sign him for next season and forget giving up 3 firsts or paying $50m for a veteran free agent.

I would have to see the numbers, but we REALLY need a TE.  We could use a S.  We need healthy CBs.

This, exactly.

If you look at Sam as a second year player, which he really is to us with a horrible coach his first year, then look at what he is doing now, then you should be able to see how much progress he has made. And the guy is just 25 years old. He's got the arm, he's settled down and he is better at taking what the game is giving than ever before. And the chemistry he has been developing with DJ Moore and the other receivers is actually visible.

Another off season in this program with coaches that can coach and a team that believes in him and we could very well have a good QB, all for the price of  what was it a second round draft pick?

Me, I'd offer Sam a prove it contract for next year. Say $8 million guaranteed with a buttload of incentives for great game play and even a massive one for a Super Bowl appearance for us. Add in a option for the team for years two and three at starting QB rate salary in case he does really take off.

That dumbass investment we made in Darnold a while back is finally starting to pay off. It would be foolish to ditch him now.

Roll into the 2023 season with Darnold and Corral, perhaps pick up a late round QB in the draft for training camp competition. Spend this year's top picks on TE, DE, CB and other needs.
