REPORT: Panthers expected to interview 'offensive gurus' for HC position

As reported by NFL Network insiders Ian Rapoport and Tom Pelissero on Sunday morning, the Panthers—even after what Wilks has done—still plan on engaging in a “full” search for their next head coach. And this time around, they may have a type.

“The turnaround has positioned Wilks, 53, as a strong candidate for the full-time job,” the report notes. “He’s well-regarded and liked within the building. However, Carolina still intends to go through a full search process that also includes other in-demand candidates. Owner David Tepper’s top priorities have been solidifying the quarterback position and the offense, so expect the Panthers to interview all of the rising offensive gurus. If Wilks is going to get the job, he’ll need to sell his plan for that side of the ball, too. Tepper also respects Wilks’ leadership traits, which is a huge part of the job.”

the Panthers have to interview at least two minority candidates from outside the building to satisfy the Rooney Rule conditions, so might as well make it a proper search. my question is what kind of demand there will be for Steve Wilks around the league after the job he's done down the stretch. might not be a "hold on Steve let us interview these people and then circle back" situation at all.

It would be a bit short sighted if they didnt do this.  Give Wilks the first go at it and let him offer his plan for moving forward and then do the interviews

Would love to be a fly on the wall during that interview.
Wilks has to know that Tepper wants a team that has a really good offense.
Also making your HC be a former OC has its advantages.
Wondering if he is only conservative because he has to be or will he be conservative with his own team.

Steve Wilks will be a head coach in the NFL in 2023. I just hope it's here in Carolina. There is no one I want more to lead this team. Tepper came from the Steelers. That franchise has history, culture, and stability. Wilks is part of our history and culture, and he's brought stability to this team. He's instilled identity and accountability. Win this game today and Wilks will break Rhules season win record. What Wilks has done as interim is incredible. He is getting it done with a Ben Mcadoo offense. Thats crazy.

If he wins the next 2 then the interviewing process will be a sham as Wilks will assuredly get the job.

    • You’re playing madden we’re talking real football stuff…. He does have you seen his special on internet he def thinks he’s getting paid
    • Without the team having an identity kinda hard to predict what they value.  They either are really trying to build a balanced team, or preparing for another swing at qb if Bryce doesn’t pan out. Seems like we value the o line but the $ spent there has been underwhelming besides Lewis, you could say it’s because of injuries but still hasn’t been worth the investment. as already stated, the whole handling of Bryce young as a whole has been ass backwards, we spent the years we’re supposed to take advantage of having a qb with a lower cap hit, building the team up to be adequate. now It appears, key word appears, the saints have done it correctly, which is painful to even think about. Regardless, I hope the front office has paid attention to qb contracts recently, such as Tua, Kyler, Daniel jones(pre colts) and don’t settle for subpar qb play at franchise qb rates
    • This is the flaw in your logic.  Cutting 3 of our best players will somehow move us from whatever we are to "compete". Even the most Young super fans are not predicting a ceiling above top 10-12, and that will not nearly cut it.  Someone will need to break the log jam of QBs getting nothing or North of 50. Our qb is at best a middle ground, lets hope it will be us that also manage to pay the worth at about 100 over 3 years.  And before you jump me, yes that is only of he improves.
