I think if Sam had Smitty, Moose and Double Trouble it might be a different story. I loved Jake but he was no star, he was a game manager same as Sam.

He threw for 29 touchdowns in 2004 without Smitty. You're grasping.

Eh....I hear you but those aren't 1:1 scenarios.

Needless to say, no one should be comparing those two.

Jake wasn't even that special or very good and there still isn't a comparison to be had between him and Darnold. I'm just keeping it real.

Ok buddy. He had two total seasons in his whole career with 20 or more TDs. With those weapons.  I’ll always remember Jake fondly for his attitude and heart, not his ability to carry the team to wins.

Then let's raise the bar and keep looking for our next QB.

Absolutely. I am in no way supporting Sam for our starter, but he’d be a really good backup to have and seemingly a good teammate.

Just give him a five year contract and let him compete because he's such a nice guy and he tries so hard. This is a family affair.

Do any of ya'll that don't keep Sam Darnold's codpiece on your nightstand remember just four years ago when turning the ball over and losing football games was a deal breaker for this fanbase?

Nobody asked for a 5 year contract out of him. His turnovers have looked much better this season have they not? So from what you have seen this year if he signed a fair deal, you would not even keep him for a backup?

So what are we wanting to do here? He looked like a solid game manager when our rushing attack was cruising. When it wasn’t he struggled. Are there really people that want him as our starter again next year? To those people when the game is in the line and he has to throw what do you think is going to happen?

I’m pretty sure no one wants him as our starter.

Good. I think he is fine as a backup as I think most people do here. I don’t think there are any “Sam Haters” as has been stated on here. People just don’t trust him as our future at the position and rightfully so. We still need to draft a QB early this year.

If Cj Stroud and Young are gone!! I would rather go BPA.. I do not want Levi’s or Richardson!! Still don’t know what we have with Corral.. all depends on who the coach is .. til we know that we can speculate all we want!! If we don’t trade up for Stroud or Bryce I rather go BPA!!

There are posters on this thread claiming he’s not an acceptable backup QB for the Panthers. In spite of him leading our team to 3 wins in 5 games while putting up top 15 QB level stats.

That’s a “Sam Hater”

I think they just want a better option AKA drafting one. If Sam is on a cheap backup contract no one will really care. If another team offers him more money then we need to just let him walk also. Game managers with a power running game are easy to come by.

    • You see, I just don't subscribe to a cookie cutter type of philosophy when it comes to trades or team building. Every situation is different. Many may disagree, but I think that FOs that can't draft impact-players beyond the first round aren't really viable.  Just for argument's sake, because we all know this hypothetical trade is as realistic as the moon being made of cheese, Micah is a young dawg really just beginning his prime and is arguably the most valuable pass rusher in the league. He could realistically play at a high level for at least the next five to seven years. Parsons' current trajectory is Canton. That being said, he's not some old merc that fits the mold of "one piece away," he's a core piece to any defense for the better part of the next 10 years. Pass rushers of his caliber and age don't generally become available, so, sure, he'd help an elite team, but he's also a fit for a younger team that's building. I know that you don't agree, but it's all good. I respect your rationale.
    • Here's my not important take on this subject.  Who wouldn't want a pass rusher of his consistency?  I would absolutely love to have him on this defense.   Would I give up Brown in a trade for him.  Nope, I would never do that.  Interior linemen are way to important to be settling for whatever you can get at the position.   Would I trade 2 firsts,  plus fork out a big contract for him?   Without knowing if Young is for sure going to be our long term, franchise guy,  there is no way I'd be okay with letting go 2 firsts. As for the contract that he'd demand, I just dont get caught up with NFL contracts.  They have been out of control for decades.  So I really dont get upset over big contracts. It's just a fact of life in the NFL.  You HAVE to pay for talent.
