If Payton is offered the job, I will never watch another game, pay for anything Panthers logo'd, or even post here as long as Tepper is still owner. Everything Panthers related I own will be burned. The Green Bay Packers will become my team of record, but i don't know how closely I would follow them.

I will NEVER support a Sean Payton coached team, and any owner who hires him has permanently killed any desire to support their team. Even considering Payton would demonstrate a severe and unacceptable lack of moral judgement or outright indifference.

Anyone who stands for anything meaningful has their uncrossable line.

This is mine.

He's not coming here, take that poo to the bank

lol alright buddy rein it in

Nope.

People say a lot of poo here, most of it unconsidered knee jerk crap.

I usually don't, but have chosen to state my position strongly for a reason in this instance.

If others don't consider Bountygate any big deal, that's their perogative, but I do, and the passage of time does not simply make grossly unacceptable things okay.

So, no, sorry but not gonna "rein in it."

I sure as hell hope you're right, but let me be clear, even if he doesn't come, but is offered the job, that would say something unaceptable to me about Tepper's moral compass, and i'd be out.

I think you're likely right, but one of the tiresome things about sports talk, no offense, is the tendency of fans to state opinions as fact. I'm not privy to any interviews or intenal discussions, and I'd be very surprised if you are. It reflects better on you long term when you make clear your opinion is only your opinion, and not to pretend you have some omniscient knowledge or insight that you don't have.

I very much think it's unlikely he comes here, but I don't KNOW that, so I chose to make my view clear in advance.

Is the Tepper not easy to work with a real thing or something made up on these boards? It seems to me like he gives his football people plenty of room to work.

I get the same impression. When people on these boards talk about Tepper as a meddler, i get confused because their doesn't seem much evidence for it, just a bunch of conjecture. Tepper as a poor decision maker sure, abundant evidence for that, but meddler?

My take on Tepper is he makes poor hiring decisions but then gives those people time and room to operate. That's halfway to the Steelers formula for sustained success, unfortunately in this case, halfway is worse than none at all. If he can shore up hiring decisions, we might go someplace.

I'm hoping, but I ain't holding my breathe on that.

One of the reporters attributed it to a league source in one of the articles breaking down the end of Rhule's tender. I don't recall which one. It was not something "made up on these boards."

We already know about that with the Watson chase.

No, only because we never actually made the trade. There is tons of rumor, speculation and reporting that we wanted Watson, but none of that is verifiable fact the way hiring someone would be. I agree it's highly likely he was after Watson and didn't care about the baggage, but there's not verifiable proof of it because we didn't actually trade for him. Also Watson hasn't admitted to what he's accused of. Those might seem like thin threads to a lot of folks, but to me there is a meaningful difference between having a strong suspicion your team owner doesn't have a moral compass, and having actual proof of it in the form of hiring a scumbag.

We already pushed almost all our chips to the table to land Watson last off season. I think that shows which direction Teppers compass is pointing. Personally I don’t give a poo. I just want to win football games.

    • Bryce among the 7 players Mark Ross of NFL.com guarantees will get better this season. Today, I am identifying seven players who I guarantee will improve on their 2024 output in the 2025 season. Young took tremendous strides in 2024 after returning to the starting lineup in Week 8 following his benching. He looked far more comfortable in his return and produced with consistency, as he threw for 2,104 yards with 15 TDs and six INTs in the final 10 contests. Most important perhaps is Young's confidence grew immensely down the stretch, leading Carolina to either a game-tying or game-winning drive in six of those games. Now he enters his second season in Dave Canales' system with his best supporting cast to date. The Panthers drafted wide receiver Tetairoa McMillan eighth overall to pair with Adam Thielen and Xavier Legette, who I also believe is poised for a breakout campaign this fall. The 18th-ranked rushing attack from a year ago added Rico Dowdle to complement Chuba Hubbard, giving the team a pair of 1,000-yard rushers. The Panthers have taken the necessary steps to ensure Young's third season will be the best of his career, and now it's up to him to not only continue to grow as a player but prove why he was worthy of being taken No. 1 overall in 2023. I believe that's what he will do. https://www.nfl.com/news/which-nfl-players-will-improve-in-2025-c-j-stroud-deebo-samuel-among-guaranteed-risers
    • While it's fair to question how impactful a player's relationship with a coach is (especially if someone has questions regarding said coach), it's important to also evaluate the difference between the players here. Jordan Fuller was pick #199 in the 6th round while Justin Simmons was #98 in the 3rd round. Jordan Fuller might have gotten a Super Bowl ring while he was with the Rams, but he got it while on the IR. Justin Simmons, on the other hand, is a x2 Pro-Bowler (2020, 2023), x4 second-team All-Pro (2019, 2021 - 2023), and was the NFL co-leader in INTs (2022). Simmons has also fallen off in the last couple of seasons though, grade-wise. He very well might not be that same player, which could be why the Falcons have elected to replace him with Fuller. As far as getting the best out of what he has, asking him to produce with a starting DL of A'Shawn Robinson (63.56% of the defense's snaps), LaBryan Ray (51.48%), and Shy Tuttle (50.08%) isn't reasonable. Wonnum only played in 8 games, but had the second most % of snaps (37.27%) at EDGE behind Clowney (53.53%). The second-string DL based on snap % was... and don't read this if you just ate... Charles Harris (34.48%), DeShawn Williams (27.67%), and Nick Thurman (19.7%). The second-string EDGEs based on snap count would be DJ Johnson (32.27%) and Cam Gill (18.14%). With the investments made in the run defense this season though, especially on the defensive line, it's more than fair to demand a complete turn around from last season.
