Imagine trading for Carr and having to give him an extension on top of that.

 

Good thing the Saints are the only team stupid enough to trade for him. NFC South is ours next year. Never feared a Carr led team. Now he doesn't have the best WR to throw to anymore. This is great news for us. I thought the Saints would go all in on Lamar Jackson.

Clarification...

Biggest thing I get from that is that the story is of the Raiders not wanting some huge haul in return is probably true. Carr also has a no trade cause so he has to agree to any trade.

It's basically a lesser version of the whole Deshaun Watson thing.

  • Have the saints give up valuable draft assets for a QB over 30 with a 40 million cap hit while they're already 50 million in the red.

I think people are underestimating him. Who are the top QB's in the league right now today?

Mahomes, Burrow, Allen, Jackson, Herbert, Rodgers. After that, maybe Prescott, Watson?, Stafford, Hurts? Then it gets muddy real fast. Can you put Wilson, Cousins, Murray over Carr? Idk. Carr is top 15 in the league, possibly top 10, top 12 depending on your feelings. He's certainly good enough to make a team a contender if the rest of the team is put together. Probably won't win a Super Bowl, but can turn the Saints into a 12 win team. To me Carr with the Saints is about equal to Cousins and the Vikings. Good enough to be a problem.

The rest of their team and coaching staff isn't though.

At some point they are going to have to blow it all up.  Why not now?  I get there's a staff trying to keep their jobs, but as an organization--GM, owners, they have to realize this is unsustainable.  Restructures are fine if BOTH parties agree, but it's going to be tough to get that many players to take a pay cut or push their money out several years.  If they are committed to that staff, they say "look, we have to clear our books and it will be a tough couple of years, but we will stick by you as we get though this."

      Bryce isn't a risk-taking gunslinger.  That's just QB DNA.  No one has ever said that is what we were drafting when we went that route.  That's my point.  That's not Bryce. Can you make Alex Smith throw deep? Sure.  He will occasionally.  In the reverse, can you ask Brett Favre to just take the easy layups? Sure.  He can in moments.  But in the end, they are what they are.  as I have said, Canales probably could win more games with PJ Walker.  And Bryce is a better overall QB than PJ.  PJ Walker would also have much worse games mixed in that Bryce would.

      From what i see, Canales offense requires a QB that is willing to take chances to maximize the offense. XL is also the kind of receiver that needs a qb to be risky to bring out his full potential. Its just a matter of if Bryce is gonna be that QB.

      Baker just played how Baker played.... everywhere but here. He is a risk taking gunslinger.  Always has been.  And last year was asked to be what he was.   Geno Smith was the best deep ball passer in the NFL his comeback season.  Wasn't even close that year.  Again, that's the type passer Canales has always been around in the offenses he has been part of.  The pass game that compliments the stubborn run is the deep chunk play pass game.   And that was his first investment with XL.  My continued point, is the same as going into last season.  It's a bad marriage going in.  The QB doesn't fit the scheme.  Again.  Carrol/Fox/Ron....all paired up their boring football with risk taking QBs.  And again, I'm fine if that is where we are going.  It's not my preference but that's not my argument.  I'm saying if we are doing that, we need a QB that matches it.
