It should be apparent from the fact the Panthers traded so much draft capital for him and just let him walk when they currently have a barren quarterback room. They obviously didn't want him here even in a mentor role.

49ers haven't actually had a running threat at QB in a while, which is odd considering they don't ask them to do anything special in the passing game. I guess Lance was supposed to be that, Jimmy G and Purdy definitely weren't.

Well, the Sam Darnold experience didn't work out but I do feel he'll be fine as a journeyman QB. Assuming he can stay healthy which is unlikely given how jinxed the 49ers QB position has been recently.
