In September 2017, Mike Lombardi made headlines by criticizing Philadelphia Eagles coach Doug Pederson: "He might be less qualified to coach a team than anyone I’ve ever seen in my 30-plus years in the NFL."[28] Pederson would lead the Eagles to their first Super Bowl championship later that season.

December 2012...

Two hours after a report that Ron Rivera would remain the Carolina Panthers' head coach in 2013, now another report states the opposite -- that Rivera could be fired as early as today.

Michael Lombardi of the NFL Network is sticking to his report from last week, reiterating this morning that he expects Ron Rivera will be fired as head coach of the Carolina Panthers today. Reports out of Charlotte indicate Rivera has not talked about his future with players during their exit interviews, which are being conducted this morning.

Conventional wisdom among analysts is that Carolina will take their time, and find their new GM prior to deciding on Ron Rivera's future -- but if Lombardi's sources are right, this is going to be a crazy day.

I mean we gave up a metric ton for the pick.

If we get it wrong we've set the franchise back 3 years.

No it doesn't lol It sets us back 0 years because we'll have all of our assets 3 years from now, which is when we will know if the QB we drafted is the real deal or not.

Texans are going to take one of Stroud or Young. I feel pretty comfortable in that. So they will be taking Stroud 😉

Are you aware that Watsons agent is same for stroud?

That was as messy as NFL gets....you know theres still some hurt feelings...

I'm sure he represents other players currently playing for the Texans. These guys are pros and a huge part of their job is keeping a good working relationship with all the teams. Just because a situation becomes untenable for a player and a team doesn't mean that agent's relationship does the same. Quite the contrary.

I didnt see one and it was a bad blood deal. He could have already told them, "its not in your best interest to draft QB stroud."

Im mainly playing around, cause I feel houston will not care about who panthers are drafting, they know its a bluff.....but the agent stuff above is real....

Unless telling them not to draft Stroud is coming from Stroud himself, then the agent is doing his client a massive disservice. An agent's job is to represent his client and letting personal pissing matches get in the way of that would make him a bad agent.

There was months, no over one year of back and forth between texans and david. Again as far unhappy player goes, this was of the extreme type. Team was pissed out too. He also sat out for a full year while getting 15million to do so. In the old days there were for sure agents that blacklisted teams and same went for teams. This was that level of "fug off, I will never do business with you again" type feelings. Texans were rumored to release alll the tiny towel massages, Im sure that didnt go over well with david.....

I forgot the player and agent, plus this was MLB. But the braves had a agreement done&faxed, after spending lots of time hammering out the details. The agent took the fax and sent it to SD and signed there soon after. In the following days the numbers came out and the braves GM saw they were the same as his agreed offer. He publicity stated that the braves would never sign any client repped by that agency for as long as he was GM.

Herniay and dave for sure had issues with certain agent/agent firms. I dont believe finessererre has that problem, but hes still green as GM. People are still britter and hold stoopid things against each other....

    • Same. I would prefer a MNF game earlier in the season. As if more likely has some significance in case things go south this season. If we perform well enough we could even get another game forced to a Sunday night spot later in the season.
    • Wanted to jump into this thread. Although I do not post anymore I do look in as there are a few old friends around. Loved hearing some of the names you mentioned.  Another  oldie is NanceUSMC.  He is the one who got me here from the old Observer forum.  Good guy and smart football guy. I have learned a lot from a lot of good Huddlers over the years, Over time. we have sadly lost a few who left this earth too soon.  Anyone who know of someone, it would be nice to try to make a list.  One of the more recent, CosmoGirl,  was someone that kind of hit hard.  Life sucks sometimes. Some of the best times were when we had our own tailgate and could meet up in person.  I think it made us better. Several dedicated volunteers, lead by LiverMush, started setting things up in the wee hours of each gameday morning.  Don't know all those regulars but I remember JakeFlake was one.  For you newbies...each game,  a Huddler (or a group) sponsored the food for each tailgate.  Eating was free but a donation was asked for.  At the end of the year those donations were used to buy bicycles for Toys for Tots.  Over the years Huddlers bought a lot of new bikes for kids for Christmas.  (I am guessing a couple of hundred each year.)  We had a good time getting together, got to make friends in person, and then got to feel like you were doing something good. It was truly a community. I got to meet Dan Morgan at one of our tailgates...he brought pizza from his restaurant.  How many of you remember that?  Glad the restaurant did not make it....lol. Not only have people changed, and come and gone.....but the entire nature and purpose has changed. Nothing lasts forever and we move on but we still like to think about good times. Same reason we take pictures. Want to ask a question I have not seen anyone else mention......who remembers    "The Couch" ?  We have argued, laughed, lived the ups and downs of football and dealt with a little real life along the way.  A thanks to  the Mods who keep this going.  I am sure they sacrifice a lot of their time out of love for the forum and the Panthers. Take care my friends and be well.  I will close with my new favorite quote which I think is greatly needed in these difficult times.
    • My top-5 JAGS: 1. Tommy Tremble: May not ever be top-tier, but has been solid and you never doubt the effort. 2. Cade Mays: Not bad for a 6th rounder. Hated to see him go. 3. Brady Christensen: One of the most versatile backup OLs in the NFL. Hopefully we re-sign him. 4. Trevis Gipson: Quietly was really solid depth last season. Glad we brought him back. 5. Brycen Tremayne: Has been solid depth at WR, flashing at times last year.
