David Newton: Panthers leaning toward Bryce Young

If you think Stroud is anywhere near Bryce you draft Stroud and coach him up IMO. Because he has prototypical size and throwing ability that Bryce will probably never have.

If there's a huge gap and Bryce is lightyears ahead of Stroud in terms of decision making and ability to play under pressure, then pick Bryce.

I don't think the gap is that wide. Id be OKAY with Bryce but Id be ecstatic if we got CJ Stroud.

Genuinely, what is there to coach up with Stroud?

His mechanics are picture perfect. Sure, you can help him with how he processes the game, but that also comes with experience.

Newton may be a dolt but he’s got 1000x better access than anyone here, and that line about “Stroud isn’t better at anything except being taller” matches what every evaluator says.

The question though is how much better.

As someone else mentioned, if the difference isn't meeting a significant threshold, you take the guy who doesn't have the durability question.

That is so incredibly easy to refute. It's nowhere close to accurate

Lol no one knows because our staff hasn’t had their meeting two weeks before the draft like Fitt said. Any QB these “insiders” inquire about will be talked up and complimented because that’s how we operate now. They think it’s privileged info but they could literally ask about any QB and our staff will say they like them.

This is a devastating blow to the Young contingent if you're at all familiar with David Newton's track record. If there's a worse team beat reporter out there I'm unaware of him or her.

Hope your wrong old mate Rippadonn doesn’t rate Young so he’s definitely gonna be elite

Ask for 2 and 12 first

Man that would be incredible. A small part of me thinks they are wanting to trade back with them which would explain JSN coming in for a visit. I think it would be more like 1 and 32 then we use 32 and 39 to jump up and draft JSN to pair with our new QB.

    • Option 1 is most likely. Even if he kills it this year, it wouldn't be prudent to rush an extension for one good season. If you have to pay him more because you waited another year, then he earned it. And that's OK. Adjust accordingly.
    • Cam had the advantage of having a very strong supporting cast his first 2 seasons. Things definitely worsened later on. But those first couple of years can kill a QB. Some never truly recover. If they do recover it takes years, and usually with another team. Trying to learn to be an NFL QB with TEs and WRs that are trying to learn too is a recipe for disaster. Imagine if Cam's rookie season was that 2014 offensive squad. Changes everything! I said it when they moved up in 2023. This team wasn't ready for a rookie QB yet. Anyone that thinks Stroud would have been a lot better is delusional. The correct formula is to build a strong team and then you go get your rookie QB. Not the other way around. BY is going into his third season and we're still trying to put a respectable group of WRs and TEs around him. I think they have the right personnel now. Unfortunately they haven't developed into actual NFL players yet.  This season we should expect consistency and aggressiveness from BY. Mostly for his development but also to DEVELOP his young cast.
    • It is goofy how some people hate Bryce so much that they're flat out lying to try and remain entitled to their pessimism. It's insanity. Most fans are realists and eagerly awaiting the season to see if we get pre- or post-benching Bryce to start the season and how much he is able to do with some young and developing weapons. Many of us understand that these young guys are going to have growing pains on the job as well as the new defense, but the fans with all of the excuses for why Bryce can't be successful are pounding the no excuses drum. Personally, I'd prefer the Keep Pounding drum.
