Bosa was ranked #1. I always try to remind folks, Brian Burns has never had a consistent offense to play off of in his entire career, save the end of last year where he thrived. There is a reason he is worth 2 #1 picks plus more, a lot of you can't see it because our schemes have sucked, he has had no compliment on the other end, and we rarely played with a big lead for him to exploit.

Burns' value to the Carolina Panthers was clear at the trade deadline, when the Los Angeles Rams offered two first-round picks and more for the rights to Burns. Carolina refused.

"He has special ability: length, bend, closing speed, multiple moves," an NFL personnel evaluator said. "But he's not a household name because he plays in Carolina."

Burns posted his first double-digit-sack season in 2022 (12.5) and made his second consecutive Pro Bowl. His 16.4% pass rush win rate ranked 25th in the league. Multiple voters pointed out that he didn't have a natural bookend rusher last year and played for two different coordinators. New defensive coordinator Ejiro Evero, considered one of the league's best defensive minds, should maximize Burns' skill set.

"If he was in San Francisco in Bosa's spot, he'd be a superstar, too," the evaluator said.

Burns is our best player currently, happy to see him getting the recognition he deserves. Still a young guy, I hope we resign him soon!

Pretty much how I feel as well. Can't wait to see what Evero has in store for us this year. 

 

I realize this is a message board, and folks have a right to say pretty much whatever they want. But man...It really is kinda a shame on how many of our players are so undervalued by our own fans.

This is a stale take - few "undervalue" Burns as an edge rusher, if anyone at all. Little question that the dude is high quality in that respect. The flip side is more that he's one-dimensional and going to cost a ton. With a trade package on the table like the Rams offered, which placed a pretty dang high value on Burns, it presented the opportunity to spread that value around (since the Rams suck) and gain a big chunk of salary cap relief in the process, a key component to success in modern NFL.

Having that trade be successful isn't/wasn't reliant on being 100% sure that one of those picks turned into another Burns like is often framed, but rather that the value locked up in his position could be disbursed across multiple positions with good odds of turning a number of weaknesses on a growing team into strengths.

That said, what's done is done and he will hopefully develop into a true all-around monster this year. However, the potential of that trade that didn't happen can and will be discussed all the way until that final pick passes in 2025.

Burns had 1/3 (12.5)  of our total sacks (35) last year, with no true passing rusher threat any where else on the D-line. Marques Haynes had 4 sacks. No one else on the team even managed 3.  Our DT's combined for a grand total of TWO.  Our 2nd leading sacker was Frankie Luvu (7), an OLB. Despite the lack of help on the line it  seemed like half of our message board couldn't wait to get rid him heading into the 2023 season for draft picks(s) which in all likelihood wouldn't come close to replacing his production in the rookie season. I'd say that Brian Burns is definitely undervalued by "some" of the Panther fans.

Seriously. It's like not paying Nnamdi because he can line up on one side or Richard because he can only play zone. Except this is a pass rusher -- way more valuable.

Yeah he's iffy against the run (not as much of a liability as the huddle makes him out to be, he knows his run fits) and he struggles sometimes when doubled, both points I know will be brought up during negotiations. He still wins most of his 1 on 1s fairly quickly and still is in his athletic prime.

But nah let's use one of those two first to maybe get a Brian Burns.

      Bleacher Report trade and mock has us trading to 9 and picking SG Brayden Burries Charlotte Hornets recieve: Kyrie Irving and No. 9 pick Dallas Mavericks receive: LaMelo Ball, No. 14 pick and No. 18 pick The Hornets just finished their sixth season with Ball. It was only their second with a winning record, their sixth without a playoff trip and the sixth in which someone else paced them in win shares (Kon Knueppel this time around). While they'd surely like to keep building on their second-half momentum, maybe they're just unconvinced that Ball can lead a winning team. Maybe they credit that stretch run less to him and more to the addition of Knueppel, the ascension of Brandon Miller and some out-of-nowhere gains on the defensive end.   Charlotte should be dreaming big right now, and perhaps it believes a steadier hand at point guard is needed to realize that. Or maybe it feels it needs a little more time to bring everything together and thinks that task would be simpler without Ball's money on the books and with a top-10 pick in a loaded draft instead of two selections in the mid-teens.   Either way, this shakeup works. Short-term, a healthy Irving should be far easier to follow than Ball. You may not always know if Irving is playing, but you know what you'll get if he does: elite shotmaking, all-time handles, offensive ingenuity and the ability to work both on and off the ball. He could show this young roster what's required to win for a year or two (he has a $42.4 million player option for 2027-28) or even stick around longer if the partnership proves especially fruitful.   The Hornets also add a building block in Burries, who offers both plug-and-play polish and flashes of shot-creation that hint at star potential. In short, they could better their chances of winning both now and in the future while collecting both the best player in the trade and the highest draft pic

      I'd hire him in a heartbeat. Hell if he wanted the job, I'd have Canales packing his poo right now and I don't dislike Canales. It's just that firing a 106-58 coach is crazy work. That's a 65% winning percentage. That's the equivalent of averaging 11 wins a season. That's incomprehensible for a fanbase That's never experienced back to back winning seaons.
