Is Fitterer the right guy?

I don't agree Fitz has done a bad job once he was in charge. He gave Wilks the reins and that worked out pretty well. Bringing in Reich and his staff was a major coup. Reich was clearly one of the best choices out there and his staff is widely regarded as one of the best before the season even starts.

but that's the thing with Fitz and how he is judged.....all the bad is just dismissed as Rhule being the great and powerful Oz.   Fitz gets this weird carve out that if folks like something it's Fitz and if they don't it was Rhule and Fitz was helpless in it.

When was Fitz in charge of things?

So if he does get a carve out in the past now he doesn't. He is in charge and hired Reich so now we can judge him on his own merits. I would think as a Panther fan we would want our GM to be successful and give him the benefit of the doubt until it is proven to be the problem. We are seeing the fruits of his labor now. This is really a better conversation for after this season for when we have solid results to evaluate. I don't know why folks want to throw Fitterer under the bus given the upgrades we keep making to improve the team. And honestly I thought he did great in his first draft this year. Maybe it is just me......

my question is simply when he actually was in charge to be judged and critiqued.   His clock started midseason of last year?

Can't really say he upgraded the roster if that is the case.   Because Fitt's record of action just started.   None of those guys have logged a snap yet for the Carolina Panthers.

I'll give him the nod on an improved coaching staff.  Even without them coaching a game yet.  Think it is easier to do that than with the players.  But that largely is just because Rhule was that comical.  I think there is an argument until proven otherwise they course corrected too far after Rhule.  Frank, Dom, Caldwell.   That's just dipping right back into the Fox/Ron pool after Rhule.   And if Evero really worked out well this year.....it makes him a temp hire most likely.  And Evero was actually the only coaching hire to be really excited about.

Nah. People gonna pull up film on the preseason defense and mark him off the list…

#Huddlelogic.

I think the D will be nice.  Might start slow but I think it will be nice.  Now, could the offense ask too much of them and that knock them down a couple pegs? Potentially.

Because we are 0-2 and look lost in the preseason.  Don't you know?  We should have be 2-0 and have a point differential of 55-17 in the preseason.  Because teams that suck in the preseason suck in the regular season.  That was something Nostradamus wrote and is a universal truth.  It is panic time.  It was panic time after last week.  Why aren't you panicking?  Start now and avoid the rush.

Seems like the primary exercise routine these days is jumping to conclusions.

We have no idea who did what when The Process was in town.  We know that he had full control of everything, on paper.  We know he exercised that control over parts of the organization that are unrelated to NFL coaching duties (but something a college coach would do on campus).  We heard that he lost some of that control heading into last offseason, but we don't know if that is true and, if it is, where the lines were.  We don't even know what we don't know.  That is the result of a "creative decision" to give a guy who knew nothing about an NFL team and had no reason in his history to believe he knew anything at this level full personnel control of an NFL team.  I thank Tepper and maybe Hurney for that piece of brilliance.

I am hard on people up the food chain (even in my job), because I actually expect them to do their jobs.  I don't buy into "plausible deniability" or any of that other horse manure.  But even with that, I have no idea when Fitts was allowed to do his job, other than sometime on or after October 10, 2022.

Actually, thanks to some inside reporting, we do know some things.

I'll relate what I can remember off the top of my head:

The quarterback decisions were all headed up by Rhule, though word is Ben McAdoo had a significant influence on the pick of Matt Corral. The lone exception would be the fifth year option decision on Sam Darnold. That choice was reportedly made by Fiterer.

Thomas Fletcher was a Rhule pick. Likewise, he had some say in the pick of Chubba Hubbard (but no, not just because of his wife) and others.

Robbie whatever his name is now was mostly Rhule, as was Haason Reddick. The Reddick acquisition though was partially owed to Pat Stewart thanks to his connections with Reddick's former team.

Similarly, the significant Temple / Baylor presence on the roster (especially in the first season) had Rhule's hand in it. Nobody's ever denied that.

Obviously, all the coaching hires were by Rhule. Although word is he was forced to go "outside his circle" in his last offseason, the final choices and approval were still his.

As far as the majority of the roster building, for the second and third seasons under Rhule, that would have been Fitterer. I'd be hesitant to put a percentage on it, but we know the backstory from a couple of sources.

Rhule learned from his first and earliest experiences in Carolina that full personnel scouting and analysis was way too big of a job for someone who also had the head coaching duties. Even with the diminished influence in year three, he still retained final say, had certain guys he insisted on and headed up the most important decisions (like QB) but didn't necessarily do a lot of the legwork.

We know also that Rhule had certain guys he listened to (Evan Cooper being an important one) and he did push for certain people to be in personnel and/or the front office, but Fitterer had the majority of the control over the scouting department.

There's probably more if we go back to some of the old stories, but that's most of what I remember.

He is an embarrassment as a GM and people are still propping him up. He can't build a team, he can't draft with any cohesive vision and he looks to be busting on his 1st round picks. An unhealthy CB, a RT at LT for a run first offensive approach in the modern NFL and a tiny QB to go behind the cheeks oline he built...LOL and that's just the 1st picks. Any talent on the table really means very little if the team isn't well built and this is a 2019 level dumpster fire but we have to wait for the first coupe of real games to allow it to be confirmed so just a couple of more weeks before I get to see how long the fan base gives AS about the new staff and all the blah they brought to the table.

Really putting yourself all by yourself on an island with those takes. If we go by standard wisdom of waiting until year 3 to judge draft picks you are premature as well as overblown in your analysis.

You still believe this team can win while I'm not a fan anymore, I'm just enjoying the show. This is a bottom of the NFL team any which way you look at it except as a blind fan.

Yupperz. This is exactly why fans aren't allowed to be GMs. They give up at the first sign of adversity. This team sucks so I'm not going to be a fan anymore. Thankfully, we have cooler heads running the show.

If you can honestly look at this team and not see the talent upgrades the last few years? You don't want to see it.

Lol this team's talent is wasted in terrible management and it's still not all that talented at the end of the evaluation. Also not an NFL fan so no fugs given, it's just the very sad truth. This team is poorly run and it starts with Tepper's management skills of a chimp throwing crap at a wall. I'm here to watch and laugh at him make money off of the poo show until I get tired and can't find any more laughter...which isn't looking like anytime soon lol.

Give the job to a random fan, it couldn't be much worse than we have seen the past five years with 2 GMs.
