Starting QB

SO we drafted our QB of the future, like some of yall wanted. After a few preseason games are any of you worried we picked the wrong QB? Or do any of you guys think we should have kept what we had and drafted help to protect a QB? I will say, I like Young as a QB, but I truly believe we drafted a QB 1 year too early. Hopefully I end being wrong, but we had other positions to sure up before QB. And so far, the OL is getting our QBs killed! Same problem we have had the last several years is still looking like a problem. THOUGHTS?

If Young stays healthy he will probably be the best QB this franchise has had. I think he has the arm talent and the smarts to be successful in the NFL. We have one of the best coaching staffs you could ask for to groom a young QB into the franchise player we need him to be. Just can't panic like the sky is falling after a rough performance or two. Cam had plenty of rough games when he was here and he turned out to be pretty damn good overall. If Young stays healthy I think he will have a fairly solid year. Maybe not playoffs that will largely depend on how the o line/defense/overall health of the team performs, but I don't think we have anything to worry about when it comes to the QB Young just needs reps and experience at this point.

All yall keep riding the "its only preseason" wave. Our OL consistency and depth is a HUGE problem. I never once said I didn't think Young was capable of being a starting caliber QB, or quite possibly a franchise type QB. All I said was I think we went QB a year to early. Time will tell...

    • I heard one analyst say that Parsons is (or was relative to the same age) a better player than Mack. Could be recency bias, but I'd say that that's absolutely true.
    • Watson is a cautionary tale because he pulled that trade coming off a full year he didn’t play due to injury and then almost a whole other full season due to an 11 game suspension for being a creep.  If Parsons was coming off all of that, I’d agree - we don’t do it.  But Parsons has been mentioned with the likes of LT and Mack.  If we could swing it, we should do it.  I don’t think the cowboys would trade him in-conference, but we’ve seen wilder things happen before (McRib to WSH).
    • Saw a post somewhere earlier that said what the Bears gave up for Khalil Mack would be a fair comp as to what to expect it would take to get Parsons.  But Parsons is actually a year younger than Mack was at that point, and also, I believe Mack was named an all-pro at two different positions that prior year, iirc…  but I think Parsons is as equally versatile. we should definitely see what it would cost, at minimum.
