So we decided to trade CMC and DJ Moore.  Two guys that could actually help Bryce Young and were under contract.  So we could keep a guy that’s demanding more than we think he’s worth.  Not the best management no matter how you slice that.

The longer this drags on, the more stupid it was to trade DJ instead of Burns.

Without the trades of McCaffrey and Moore, we don't get Young.

Unfortunately we can't get to pick 1 without one of those players being removed from the picture. The Bears weren't going to budge without Moore in the deal and we never won more than 5 games with McCaffrey despite his substantial salary cap hits.

QB and pass rush are the 1a/1b premium targets by any franchise looking to become competitive.

Tapper was fine with trading the face of the franchise just a week earlier. He didn’t stop anything involving Burns.

I must point out the fatal flaw in that statement.  You are trying to explain how a decision was made inside the Panthers organization by using logic.  That went out the window when they decided to hire a BS artist for a HC over a plate of meatballs.

Maybe some reason will be restored someday.  Hell, maybe you are right and it is in place now.  But I'd like to see it first.

That’s a fair statement.

and that’s why teams like the Eagles win and we don’t.   They paid an elite pass rusher 15 a year.  A better one than Burns.

The Eagles win bc they are stacked on both sides around Reddick. You guys are trolling acting like Reddick was going to be a season saving force here.

That’s not really true.  The 49ers 2nd round pick wasn’t some lynchpin of the trade.  And the Bears wanted Burns, but we weren’t willing to deal him.

It was silly to trade Moore after moving CMC when you’re planning on drafting a QB.

Reddick didn't want to be here he wanted to go to a contender he was unhappy in the last weeks of his season with us why do people keep omitting key details? If we trade Burns instead of Moore we're limited to chasing aging pass rush vets at best and then our defense can't get off the field. There's no easy quick path in this no matter how many do overs you might want to daydream about.

Probably could have kept CMC and pulled it off.  All the Bears got from that deal was pick 61.   A late 2nd rounder that was almost a 3rd.  Panthers could have likely figured out something else there.

Reddick’s pass rush isn’t a byproduct of playing in Philly.   He got it done in Carolina and Arizona.  Was better at getting to the passer in each of those years too.

I’ve never argued he would have saved or done anything.   Comment was Eagles added an elite pass rusher for 15 a year.  Folks here talking about adding one for 30.   Well, that is relevant if you want to talk about roster building by a front office.   Eagles doing it smart.  And they have a good roster as a byproduct.  You start paying pass rushers 30 mill, committee RBs starting money, etc…..it impacts what you can and can’t do elsewhere.  Adds up.  Hell, our 6th biggest cap hit this year is Robby Bobby Robbie Chosen Jet.  Because we paid a role playing WR like a low end 1.

I recall getting flamed for saying Moore was better than Robby Anderson.

    • Well, hope they're not worried about a torn Labrum or Rotator Cuff, as someone who went through that myself, I know those don't have anything show up on X-Rays but from the MRI, so this is kinda a nothing update, hope it's not a tear or his season is already over if they decide to do surgery now. Which is basically what would be needed to get him to 100% for the start of next season's training camp if it's a labrum.  If he plays the season with it and then does surgery, he's not going to be ready for camp and probably not the start of the season either.
    • I always try to not pay much attention to a team’s preseason win/loss record. The 1982 Washington and 2021 LA Rams both lost every game in the preseason and went on to win the Super Bowl, whereas the 2008 Detroit Lions and 2017 Cleveland Browns both won every game in reason and went on to lose every regular season game. There’s many examples of teams that lose in preseason that go on to have good seasons, but equally there are teams that lose in preseason and that continues in the regular season. Which will we be?  I think our floor is a handful of wins, while our ceiling will probably be around the 9-10 win mark. The latter will require significant improvement from the whole team and coaching staff, and will also need Bryce to play like the QB we drafted him to be. I want to be optimistic and predict a winning season, but it’s really difficult as a Panthers fan!
