Leave your emotions at the door about Burns... it's a BUSINESS

Not sure why anyone would be mad at him playing out the 5th year (or not), but I'm not grossly overpaying for his services just because he feels that he has the team over a barrel. The fifth best money in the league at his position seems about right. It's "fair" in my opinion.

He been outplayed the last 2 years by Reddick who he's currently making more than. Salary cap is essential to the long term stability of a franchise. I'm ready for a back to back winning season. Paying Burns TJ money isn't getting us any closer. Plus he's not there.  He's misses so many should be sacks. All of scrimmage sacks against Jets means nothing until we see it when the games count.

I don't think the nutjobs that say "We can find another DE/OLB"  understand how damn hard it is to get even a half quality edge rusher. Brian Burns has well outplayed the 16th overall pick we selected him with (thank lord it wasn't greg little), and there's a reason why every front office in the league would pay him a big money deal.  The reason the EDGE is the second most valuable position is because it is the most likely option on any defense to neutralize the game's most VALUABLE position: QB. Brian Burns had 12.5 sacks last year. He's a proven go-getter that can sack the QB. On top of that, HE IS 25. This man has literally 7+ more seasons of quality football left. No wise player wants to play on his fifth year option because he can get hurt and it significantly reduces his market cap. IT IS QUITE LITERALLY WHAT LAMAR DID ONCE HE GOT HURT AND EVERYONE STOOD BY HIM.

Burns and his camp are playing it perfectly waiting for the younger Bosa to get his bag. He is looking out for himself, and that's 100% what they should be. People forget that it's very easy to lose your job in the NFL. Injuries can destroy a man, and setting up the next two generations versus the next six or seven is a big deal to everyone.

To all the pansies that say "That's football... and Just play on the fifth year option." you're just yelling at a brick wall.

TLDR: Stop saying it's his fault. It's also not the team's fault. We're at a standstill because we're waiting on Nick Bosa.

Reddick plays on one of the most stacked defenses in the league. People here frequently complained about how terrible he was against the run too. It's absurd to act as if either player is flawless. But Reddick is soon to be 29 and Burns is only 25. His story is still yet to be written as is his ultimate ceiling in this league.

Play under the 5th year option and prove your worth.

If you hold out for a contract, then you feel confident in what you deserve based on your on-field performance.

Based on the performances Burns has put forth to date, and factoring in his youth and our declining of the Rams trade offer, I believe he’s elevated to ~5th in edge rusher rankings. If he is paid accordingly, his APY should be ~$24mil. If he’s wanting $26+, I believe he should show he deserves it on the field.

He doesn’t have us by the balls.  He’s under a 5th year option.  Holding out means he loses millions and still doesn’t accrue a season.  Then back to the same spot he’s in right now.  We have a first year head coach and rookie QB.  I don’t think anyone believes this is a SB or bust team.  It’s not like Burns is the difference between a ring or a losing season.  Don’t overpay and handicap us for the next few years.  We have more holes to fill and no first rounder next year.  Let him hold out.  Let him lose millions.  Let the league forget about him by this time next year.  Or…he can agree to a deal that pays him in the top 8-10 for his position, which matches his performance.

How are you a Panthers fan?

You don't want the best player on defense to get paid. You wish he loses millions. I mean what the hell has Brian Burns done to some of you guys?

He's probably the most high character Panther on the team and people really don't want to pay this guy.

I no longer understand what a fan is anymore. Usually fans are happy when their top players get paid. Do you just not want Burns back?

I don't think he is wishing Burns ill will or hating him. I think he is just saying to call his bluff and that he doesn't not technically have all the power here as many think. I like Buena and want him on the team long term as well but I would prefer not make him the hugest paid in the league at his position as he has not yet proven to be the best at his position. I feel like the guy was trying to get that point across

Why are we calling the bluff of our best defensive player?

Like this makes no sense. It's like we the only fanbase who doesn't want to pay our top players. I honestly don't think how much Burns is valued around the league. We need to be doing everything to keep him a Panther.

We’re calling his bluff because while Burns is holding cards that say he’s our best defensive player, he’s betting as if he’s the league’s best defensive player. Maybe he can be a few years from now. He’s not that yet though.

Man yall gotta stop making this false statement. Nobody on this board knows what has been offered. Everyone just assuming he wants to be the highest paid defensive player which is ridiculous.

It's like people want drama. I just want to sign Burns and move on with the season drama free. Tepper please pay the man!

Burns wants paid and Panthers want Bosa to reset the market first. So the Panthers wait and Burns doesn't want to tank his value with an injury so he sits. It's really that simple, no problem with Burns doing it.

The market is going to substantially reset and both Bosa and Burns agents know that. Two of the top pass rushers (Bosa literally the best) entering negotiations at a very young age (25 yo). Better hope San Fran gets a move on.

    • I don't think so. I think once you're measuring electronically, the spot is where the sensor says it is. So if it says half yard short of the line to gain, that's the spot. Now how that works with scrums and the ball moving on two minute drills and poo is anybody's guess.
