Sure....Thats the typical outlook when you defending a qb that constantly changes the play at the line, holds the ball long for nfl standards and cant see wide receivers when they are open down field. But yeah....its not him.

I'm legit trying to think of his deep throws.  Week 1 he had two, one was an overthrow (100% on him) and 2 was TMJ quitting on his route (not really his fault, but inconclusive).  I know last week he had one and he was hit as he threw it.  So yeah he hasn't been accurate on those 3 passes, 1 due to getting hit (bad OL), 1 on his WR not finishing his route, and 3 on him overthrowing it.  I can't think of many more if any deep attempts.

I see a whole page of nifty charts. Some interesting data to ponder for sure.

But what do we attribute Andy Dalton's success passing the ball downfield in hostile territory to?

We know there are mitigating factors and certainly all of this is not on only Bryce Young's shoulders but charts only tell you one piece of the story. Bryce still has to start trusting himself more. And if we can't get some semblance of a deep connection defenses will continue to play him the same and we are not likely to see much improvement.

The playcalling and route combinations were completely different when Dalton played.

Right but why is that? Does Reich simply not have confidence in Bryce because he is a rookie or is he not confident in his ability to throw downfield? Either way this is a mess.

Considering all they’ve done is tell us how smart Bryce is and how much they’ve been able to put on his plate it’s becoming quite obvious which one it is

Andy Dalton threw the ball 58 times that game, and had less Yards per Attempt than Bryce did last game...

It’s like yeah he connected with like 2-3 deep passes out of 58. Like you stated his average was on par with much more attempts. Our offense did score a lot better though.

      Boy the flyers look good early. Lots of bad plays and slow start by our team. Hope that changes before the score changes.

      I guess I should have stipulated outside the sacred cow.   I complained from year one that Bryce should compete for and win the starting job on his own merit but no he was just handed it. I have been right there with everyone that wants competition.  But I don’t really have a huge problem with it for this season the way it has gone because where are the viable people we don’t have to trade for? I actually am okay with tiny hands Pickett because he is so close to Bryce arm strength wise and to be honest, skill wise. Probably. And it is only a one year deal.  That also takes into account that the QB class is looking stacked next year and if Young fails miserably then we get either a reset or a real competition and there will be more guys that I would like looking at in the FA QB class next year as well.    I sort of accept where we are this year and look at it as another treading water year (at QB). I just want to get to next year with some clarity. More than anything. And they did empty out the room (behind him anyway). Again, who was really there for us?  And I know it would not be a true competition at this point anyway. They are giving him the year, like it or not.    Also I don’t give a poo about winning games IF he sucks and or goes down after sucking because draft position and that stacked QB class.  And I want out from under him So Bad.     So I guess it is several factors that lessen my anxiety over his backup this particular season.    I am not trying to convince anyone, but you asked. That’s how I look at it.
