Panthers GMs Draft History After Round 1 (Analysis)

With all the talk lately about possible trades for a WR and Scott Fitterer's draft record I wanted to do a little comparison between him and our other two most recent GMs. In particular I wanted to look at their performance AFTER the 1st round.

Basically what I've done is give each player drafted a color grade based on how they turned out:

PLUS STARTER
SOLID PLAYERS
CONTRIBUTORS
BUSTS/MISSES

I also added a couple of others that are specific to each GM, such as for players like David Gettis (possible hit/injury), Harrison Butker (hit/cut by Hurney) and one for good/solid players we drafted that never did much here but ended up playing well elsewhere.

I then calculated the percentage of players drafted by each GM in each category. Obviously Marty Hurney was here far longer than Gettleman and Fitterer combined so that has to be considered when looking at the raw numbers, which is why I calculated the percentages.

My basic conclusions? Hurney may have been a little better than he's given credit for after round 1, but Gettleman was the best and Fitterer, well... ick. As Dennis Green would say, he is who we thought he was. I'd like to see how these numbers compare to league averages, but that would require a little more time and effort than I want to put in right now.

6th round, actually. But that doesn't make it any better.

Thanks for sharing. I think For Fitt, Barno could be classified as a  contributor, plays special teams, and gets about 10-15 reps on defense for a sixth-round pick that's solid.

Overall though, the calling card for Fitt was Seattle was able to develop and hit on players that were taken on Day 2, 3, or UDFA (Richard Sherman, Bobby Wagner, Kam Chancellor, Doug Baldwin, etc.) 

This roster lacks depth and hasn't won anything this year, including preseason games.

It was the 6th, and there was a day 2 graded G sitting there who is now starting for KC right next to the best young C in the NFL who we should have drafted over TMJ. We had a poo OL at that point. You take every higher ceiling risk at OL in day 3 over any other position considering our OL issues. So bad.

He gets a lot of credit  for guys he may have not had any direct hand in choosing in Seattle. Just saying.

Yeah, he certainly hasn’t duplicated Schneider’s success, especially at QB where Schneider was the guy fighting for Wilson. Maybe Scott thought that Carrol was his Wilson.

Do your numbers include all the picks we traded away? I know Hurney and Gettleman did have an occasional trade up but they never did as many trade ups as well as trading draft picks for vets, which makes no sense for a team with a max of 7 wins in 6 years.
