PFT reporting Caleb Williams wants partial ownership stake in whichever franchise drafts him

I really think some of the shine is going to come off of Williams when people stop watching him as a college QB and actually start evaluating him as an NFL prospect. Everything happens too slow for him after the snap. He just doesn't process quickly enough. I thought it might have just been a luxury of opportunity but the last two games suggest he can't speed it up even when he needs to. Maybe getting into the NFL and focusing heavily in that will help him but if he can't speed it up significantly it ain't gonna translate. You can't hold the ball as long as he does in the NFL.

Agreed--I also recall someone posting here that he holds the ball way too long. His time would be last in the NFL at the moment. I guess that's fixable maybe?

It was me.

He had the slowest average time to throw among all P5 QBs last year. He would've been at the bottom of the list in the NFL too.  I bet he's at or hear the bottom again this year.

Maybe he can, maybe he can't but he should've been working on that this past off-season because it's not going to be easy to speed it up in the NFL while in a more complex offense facing more complex defenses.

Ah--thanks. I've done enough research papers over the years to cite sources much better! Was just too lazy to search!

I mean, branding definitely plays a part, but let’s not kid ourselves. The talent level in the NFL is insane. I watch the panthers and am invested because they’re my local team, but you can bet your ass I’m also gonna watch Justin Jefferson (pre injury) and others because those guys are incredible.

In 1982 during the NFL's strike, the NFLPA planned 3 exhibition games. They had to cancel the third because so few people watched and attended the first two.

Conversely, in 1987, with all scab players for 3 weeks, the NFL only lost 20% of its viewership.

Yeah, it's 40 years ago but it's really the most recent data we have.

The teams can replace literally the entire league's worth of players and barely miss a beat.

The players would never make a dime playing without the built-in fanbases of the NFL.

me and the panthers were born in Charlotte NC in 1993. Its bigger than a brand its my HOMETOWN.

Yeah because they're smart enough to incorporate your hometown into their branding.

The fact that you're a Panthers fan tells me that you are a fan because of the branding. If you were a fan because of the players, you would be a fan of a different team. We have no good players.

Here's another example. The vast majority of players in the XFL played power 5 football and have additional experience they didn't have in college, making them better players. At worst, the XFL is on an equal footing with the ACC from a talent standpoint. So why do hundreds of times more people watch ACC football than XFL football? Give me a reason that isn't branding.

And if the players didn't need the brands for people to watch, the NFLPA would just stage its own games. No one would watch that so they don't do it.

Are you in Indiana?

A contracted employee with minority ownership, Goddell would flip the fug out!! Seriously Caleb, you’re not that good and maybe you should hire another agent.

They already stopped Rodgers from doing it with the Jets. They definitely aren't going to allow and draft pick to get something they stopped Rodgers from being able to get.

Also this isn't his agents, it's people close to him that are telling agents that he won't sign with a team after being drafted unless he gets partial ownership. So basically he's telling the nfl for him to enter the 2024 NFL draft that his rookie deal needs to include some part of ownership
