Russini: Some coaches wanted to bench Young

Yeah that really lines up with what we have seen. I felt like they wanted to bench him said it a week or so ago and that is around that same time I was talking about. Like when I was saying they weren‘t trying to win, they weren’t. Or he’d have been benched. But I never expected that to come out lol. This is fun.

That's the sad part is if we sat Bryce all season brought him along slowly, all we had to be was a mediocre football team to win this horrible NFC South, possibly even with a losing record.

Yep. Like the year we won it at 7-9 I think. Plus that would have kept Tepper from handing Chicago the #1 overall pick which is a nothing but a kick in the nuts. Traded so much to move to #1 then the next year you suck so bad you earn the #1 pick lol. Twilight Zone  level madness.

Nah, we might win in a low scoring game like the Texans.  We hit the bulk of the division schedule coming up so outside of the Saints, even we have a chance versus the Bucs and Falcons.

The defense is finally getting healthy and Eddie is money (not Eddie Money.)  if we can hold the Bucs to 17 points or less, we have a shot even with this putrid offense.

Seriously coulda just played Corral lol...but then we'd have DJ Moore and Jalen Carter or someone from pick 9 and might have actually won a few games so probably wouldn't be looking at pick #1. Comical however you look at it

I'm honestly a little scared of winning at this point.

The reason? It might actually give David Tepper the impression that he did something smart.

I think firing Reich was the right thing. Just like firing Rhule. Hiring these guys is a different story. Plus his desire to find a QB every year plus his involvement etc…

Reich was doing some inexplicable things. I wouldn't argue that.

Unfortunately, Tepper is the kind of guy who gets the wrong message even from good things.

oh absolutely

this is an inflection point for him. Panthers rattling off 2-3 wins or something would be a huge wasted opportunity for him to have some personal growth.

This dude needs to fail, fail, and fail some more. This dude needs to be humiliated in the press every time he turns on a television or opens a paper. He needs to get boo'd every time he is shown on the screen at BOA.

He needs to be shamed.

Behind paywall at Athletic, but:

The team decided this wasn’t about trying to get wins in the short term but to stay on task with teaching and developing Young in the offense.

Who might ‘the team’ be?  …Tepper, Fitterer, Reich ?

Are the coaches fired the ones who felt he should sit?   The author should   Name names

Be that as it, can you imagine being a pro player on this team understanding that playing to win was not the main goal ?

…..that the golden rule number 1 that ‘best players play’ regardless

….that the  incentive laden contracts those players signed is as worthless as used toilet paper …

…or coaches trying to put the best product on the field for their own resume

…or coaches understanding Young isn’t ready and not being listened to…

…or golden rule number two doesn’t matter either,  quoting  Herm Edwards ‘you play to win the game’.

want to know why they are sleep walking every  Sunday ?  If this story is factually true, there is the answer

It all makes much more sense viewed from the Reich felt screwed over angle.

After likely lying to Reich that he could pick his QB Tepper saddled him with a historically tiny outlier, and expects two things at once, and they are mutually exclusive.

Play Bryce Young. WIn. Can’t do both.

Have to do something. It was sort of John Fox 2010, but on steroids.

lmao this is justification for something after the point

in 2 months we went from "this team can compete to win now because of this qb" to "well this is about developing the qb."

Also it's now about just keeping him alive through the season.
