If you were GM, how would you use our that first pick in round 2?

If the right QB is there, definitely QB.  The TE class is weak.  Interior OL can be had later.

Tepper isn't likely to throw in the towel on Bryce after year one and would probably veto that but  I definitely understand your reasoning.

You mentioned that the TE class was weak. Do you have any insight into the LT and WR classes?

I wouldn't be opposed to taking a 2nd round center if had the potential to turn into Ryan Kalil or Creed Humphry for the rest of the decade. Sure up the center position with a STUD, Put Brady at LT (his natural position), move Ekwonu inside and our O-line would improve immediately.

I'm beginning my draft digging currently, I usually wait for the college regular season to wrap, which just happened.  One thing is crystal clear about TEs, after Bowers, the drop off in talent is like a steep cliff.   Yes, Bowers is elite, but even if he weren't maybe three or four TEs get drafted before day 3.  Possibly one guy in round two and a couple in the third.

It's likely the line will be a lot better next year with Christensen at LT and Icky at LG (which is how I see it playing out). I don't see them taking OL in the 2nd or 3rd and they will most likely use free agency for some depth guys on the line. I think the first pick will be a TE or WR, dependant on if Bowers is there. That's how I'd go as well.

WR and OT class is deep. We could get a first-round talent at WR in mid/late round 2.

If our goal is to protect Bryce and build our IOL so he can perform better like was done for Brees, kicking Icky inside is a no-brainer. I'd like to see BC with some experience under his belt and a stud LG like Icky beside him.

We could find a very good OT in R3 this year too.

All depends on HC/GM and the direction they want to go in. If it is someone like Harbaugh, our current OL (with Icky at G) is made for his style of offense.

Extremely deep and talented qb class. They'll be an extremely talented and intriguing pick at the top of the 2nd rd. Being a gamecock fan I watched Rattler all year throw darts in the SEC behind a horrible Oline. He also had limited weapons but his arm an accuracy was on absolute point. He will definitely be there in the top of 2nd and a much less chance in the 3rd.

Penix is a lefty, so Ickey would be on his front side an Moton on his blindside.  Without shuffling the cards, this could be a quick fix if only we can solidify the guard positions.

    • Yeah I agree. I believed in Sam too. Through all the turmoil and change Darnold was the only quarterback we have had with the size, physical tools and scrambling ability to be effective. (excluding Cam for obvious reasons) You could see more good than bad and  he showcased enough in his decision making and ball placement to allow him to develop. We just had the wrong coaching staff and front office.  Tepper and Fitz really screwed up things.
    • I know Wilks was not the answer but for you to rate the former defensive backs coach that was handed the head coach position without an offseason or real choice of offensive play caller is really short sighted. To think any coach could have done a better job with the hand he was dealt at mid-season is quite interesting. He relied on the two stable elements we had at the time, which were a decent defense and run game
    • Is it not common to wait with the announcement when the new HC is a DC or OC from one of the SB teams? Typically 2 days after super Bowl?   So, if nothing happens within a few days, there is one clear candidate that they want and Evero stays here.
