The Athletic: Is this the worst Panthers team of all time.

Long article here, but here’s the end:

”As for the worst Panthers’ team discussion, those interviewed and others informally polled agree it’s a two-horse race between 2010 and this year’s team, which will try to avoid becoming the first to finish 1-16 since the NFL went to a 17-game schedule in 2021.

Jansen, who snapped for both teams, would only say: “The 2010 team was really, really bad.”

Clausen is probably the worst QB of all time. I've never seen a QB literally refuse to throw downfield.

That said had Moore started the entire season that probably looks like a much better team. The 2010 team still had Double Trouble, a speedy Mike Goodson, Smitty, David Gettis, and Lafell.

2010 would just run all over this team, and they don't have to worry about the offense. It would be the biggest 14-3 thrashing ever.

2001 was better than this team too, but it's close. I give them the nod but acknowledge that 2001 came up with very inventive ways to lose.

5 minutes ago, electro's horse said:

the fact that 2001 hasn't been mentioned yet by anyone shows this thread's age

panthers were last in offense AND defense that year

Except that team played lots of close games and didn’t feel as bad as the 2010 or 2023 teams

    • Gustavsson would be insane. I think we would have to break the bank to afford that move. Which, I don't think is necessarily a bad idea. Ultimately, Freddie isn't likely to be around more than a couple of seasons more. We can all agree that unless they have a fleet of sports psychologists working on Kochetkov, he will never be capable of getting his head on straight enough to compete.
    • I originally hated the Miller deal but with the cap projected to rise nearly $10M next season the Canes struck some pretty good deals between Miller and Ehlers. Most of the team is locked in for the next few years. Nikishin will need an extension probably in the $6M AAV range. And Blake will need one if we don’t move him. Personally I’d move Blake, picks, and any prospect not named Nikishin/Nadeau/Artamonov for McTavish as I don’t see any any of the big time players moving teams next year. Realistically the Hurricanes should just target Gustavsson next year to fix the goal tending issue. But I’m all for moving Blake, picks, and prospects for McTavish this year. Ehlers - Aho - Jarvis Svechnikov - McTavish - Stankoven Martinook - Staal - Carrier Hall - Kotkaniemi - Robinson Jost - Jankowski Slavin - Miller Nikishin - Chatfield Gostisbehere - Walker Reilly Andersen Kochetkov I’d do Blake, Felix-Unger-Sorum, and 27 2nd for McTavish.
    • Very true on the length but stuff like this is never where we shine. We aren’t a good team at drafting.
