Bumping a year old thread to brag about comments that don't really even match what you are attempting is micropenis energy to the nth degree.

This, Then to double down on a hot take about Carr after two games…now all Saints fans would give their left nut to cut him this offseason, but will cost them 50 million dollars in dead cap room, and he refuses to take a pay cut.

It does show that "retreads" are not all that bad.  It depends who the retread is.  If for whatever reason Canales doesn't work out, there will be people writing off any dude with previous HC experience outright, which is stupid.

More importantly, it depends on who the retread’s QB is. Those dimes dropped were all Daniels. The OC, HC and QB coach, etc. had no impact on Daniels having his arm talent and skills. Coaches can help mold them but sometimes you’ve got a QB who transcends everything. McDermott didn’t make Allen and Reid couldn’t get all the way with Smith like he did with Mahomes.

Who believed in the Texans roster two offseasons ago?

The Texans also had an abundance of draft picks. Remember they drafted Will Anderson one pick after Stroud. Collins wasn’t much in his 2 seasons prior to Stroud as Davis Mills was terrible. Tank Dell was drafted the same year as Stroud.

The Texans draft 7 2024 starters in 2023 and 2024. Add in Nico Collins breakout and Hunter as a defensive stud and you’ve got the roster they have today. Heck, they’ve got multiple starters from 2022 including another probowler.

Our drafting looks like poo from 2018-2024 compared to that even with Young looking so much better. They drafted three pro bowlers at the key positions in 2022-2023. I keep saying that our drafting has got to get to another level. Some people think Morgan did a great job this year and someone even posted that even if Coker is a WR3 that it’s a great result as a UDFA. That’s BS. Coker needs to be a good WR2 at worst to make up for missing on first and second rounders at WR for years.

Just look at the talent and depth the Texans got in the 2021-2024 drafts to see how much we need to do to really be playoff competitive year in and year out. The Texans look like they are there and a large part of that is “tanking” while starting Mills and trading Watson while he was worth something. We didn’t do that so we need to actually hit (XL and Brooks don’t count as a hit draft) on every draft while Young is still on a rookie deal.

TBF Houston stumbled into their draft picks by needing to trade Watson - they tried very hard not to, he just forced his way out.

As to our drafts, it wasn't a home run this year but could still turn out. Last year is looking OK. But when you give up what we did for a draft pick, if that draft pick isn't immediately transcendent, you set the roster back, and while we seem to be drafting role players well we need breakout stars and that hasn't happened. Hopefully Young turns it around sooner than later...

You need a little luck but they got Stroud, Anderson, Stingley, Collins, Dell and a handful of other solid starters in 4 drafts. We got Iky, Young and Horn (1 healthy year) in the same 4 drafts. The trade up for Young (among other bad trade ups/trades) did cost us a lot of additional potential talent plus CMC and Moore. Feels like we’ve been treading water so to speak.

You are saying what I’ve been saying about our drafts. We need more than just hey Wallace has been OK or XL may end up being OK and hopefully Brooks will play again in 2026. There’s a huge difference between an above average NFL starter and a starter who wouldn’t start elsewhere. We need more top starters if we want to actually compete. The Texans turned over almost half their starters in the past 4 drafts with several top starters.

It's an organizational thing.

Sometimes you find a guy who was moderately successful in one setup but thoroughly thrives in another. That nets you the success of a Patriots Bill Belichick, a Colts Tony Dungy or a Seahawks Pete Carroll.

Other times, you put your faith in a guy who was super successful at his previous job but can't duplicate it in a new place. That's when you get the disappointment of a Dolphins Jimmy Johnson, a Cowboys Bill Parcells or a Panthers George Seifert.

There are no guarantees.

    • Glass houses and all. I find the people who are the most adamant about this type of thing tend to have the most to hide. Careful buddy.
    • Also, wanted to point out, all 3 of the Pivot guys I respect and appreciate tremendously.  I know RC only had 1 pro bowl, but I loved his game.  He was tough as nails and played with a ton of heart and grit.  He was trying to knock people out, but was also super cerebral.  Fred is obviously a hall of famer and just as tough. Channing made the most of what he had and was hard-nosed as well.  And yet, all three of them let Steve slide on a ton of poo in this interview.  They actually cowered in several moments and I don’t like that at all.  Because for all the things I mentioned in my initial post in this thread, them not trying to reel him back in or hold his feet to the fire on certain bullshit, and feels gross.  Yall were all on the same competitive level as athletes, and yet, yall just let him skate on poo like talking about invoking using a gun on someone, laughing off how he essentially ended two teammates’ careers by BULLYING them and then co-signing it, and letting him completely sidestep accountability about his affair.  I get it, because apparently he invited you to his home to do the interview, but either talk some real poo or don’t do the interview at all.  This was some real softball poo.
    • This season’s leader, Daniel Jones, is averaging 265.9 yards per game, that would rank 12th in 2015. Even going back to 2020, he would rank 10th in passing yards. So it does appear that passing yards is down, but is that because they aren’t as good? Possibly, but we were spoilt in recent years when we had Brady, Peyton, Brees, Rodgers, Roethlisberger, Rivers, Ryan, Stafford (etc). As crops of QBs go, it was an amazing era to watch and most will end up in the Hall of Fame. I’m not convinced you we could list as many potential Hall of Fame QBs from the current crop. Will it go pass heavy again? I think there’s a good chance that it will, but it will require QBs that can consistently air the ball out in the frequency we saw in the 00s and 10s. I think currently coaches are favouring a more balanced approach, if not favouring a strong running game.
