Marty Hurney was the most mediocre of average GMs.

So unremarkable yet not terrible.

He was significantly better than Fitterer.  That’s my only point.  He had strengths. He had highlights to offset bad he did.   The Fitterer era Panthers were a unique poo show in terms of talent and mismanagement of resources…..and also of lack of understanding the matching of talent/scheme.  Hurney at least added players that made sense and fit what his coach wanted to do and hit some grand slams.

Absolutely no disrespect to Dan Morgan, he was great for us and I have always been a fan of him; but how anyone from the current administration could be promoted in an environment that has produced the worst professional sports winning percentage since 2018 is mind numbingly stupid.

this hire reeks of Tepper wanting to continue his influence in the day to day operations of a failing franchise.

It would be interesting to see if anyone can think of examples of an assistant GM that worked under a bad GM, who when he eventually got a shot, did well. Brandon Beane is obviously the first that comes to mind, any others?

You do realize Hurney put together the foundational rosters for 2 panthers eras that were in the playoffs consistently, won division titles & went to 2 SBs?

Bad GMs can't even improve a roster to get to the playoffs after the previous GMs foundation has been cleared out. Then there are the ones that ride the coattails of the previous GM & claim it as their success.

Neither do any of the people here claiming he’s a yes man and a disaster of a hire.

I don’t like to be overly negative I guess people are just not excited. An internal hire has Teppers poop finger prints all over it. Doesn’t feel like he’s learned anything going internally.

Yeah I was thinking he was the assistant under Gettlemen. Not that he was necessarily bad either.

Welp, fug it. I guess I was stupid to hope we hired a firm to help us search for great candidates. Hiring from within when the GM crew was the worst we’ve ever had the past three years and our vet moves were as bad as the draft, makes no sense.

Oh well, maybe we’ll have some luck since our franchise always seems to get the benefit of the doubt and the best luck. 🤦

    • I'm not sure that in a fair QB competition that Young would beat out Jones.
    • That's why I said stats aside. I lived in CO during Allen's college career and didn't have kids at the time so I watched most of his games. Bruh, I'm telling you. Balls just spraying all over the place. The type of throws where you're honestly trying to figure out who he was even trying to throw that one too. It was crazy. Richardson was inaccurate in college but at least you could tell who he was trying to throw it too. He threw a lot of early in the game Cam Newton type balls where it seemed like he was just a little too amped up and everything was a few feet high. Richardson's misses looked like they were maybe fixable with working on his footwork, release, etc. Josh Allen's misses looked like "ain't no way you're fixin' that poo, dude has a cannon equipped with no sights". LOL Huge props to the Bills for evaluating him as fixable and indeed fixing him.
    • A lot can change over the next week, but here is my best 53-man roster (note: I'm just basing this on guys on the 90 man roster currently). Obviously there could be trades/ waiver claims/ FA signings.   Offense (25) QB (2): Bryce Young, Andy Dalton RB (3): Chuba Hubbard, Rico Dowdle, Trevor Etienne TE (4): Tommy Tremble, JT Sanders, Mitchell Evans, James Mitchell WR (7): Tetoria McMillan, Xavier Legette, Adam Theilen, Jalen Coker, Hunter Renfrow, Jimmy Horn, Brycen Tremayne  OL (9): Ikem Ekwonu, Damien Lewis, Austin Corbett, Robert Hunt, Taylor Moton, Cade Mays, Chandler Zavala, Brady Christensen, Yosh Nijman    Defense (25) DL (6): Derrick Brown, Bobby Brown, Ashawn Robinson, Tershawn Wharton, Sam Roberts, Cam Jackson OLB (5): DJ Wonnum, Pat Jones, Nic Scourton, Princely Umanmielen, Thomas Incoom  ILB (5): Trevin Wallace, Christian Rozeboom, Krys Barnes, Jon Rattigen, Claudin Cherelus S (4): Trevon Moehrig, Demani Richardson, Lathan Ransom, Nick Scott  CB (5): Jaycee Horn, Mike Jackson, Chau Smith-Wade, Corey Thornton, Shemar Bartholomew    ST (3): LS: JJ Jansen  P: Sam Martin  K: Matthew Wright    Would like to hear everyone's thoughts
