That is exactly what the cap doesn't matter.  We pay folks, smarter than any of us on this topic, hundreds of thousands of dollars to make sure the cap is a non issue.

I know "everyone" hates Tepper, but his deep pockets allow us even more flexibility with being able to pay more cash over cap for bonuses. Essentially it boils down to you have to have the bonus cash on hand, think like a mortgage escrow.  This is a problem for some teams, not us.

Cash over cap is a mechanism for making a run at it. Paying a lot bonus but the bonus never avoids the cap. It's always going to have a cap affect. We are in no place to be playing that game

I still wonder why this never seems to make sense. There’s no magic. We have no Mahomes or any other expensive star and yet we were close to the cap signing Sanders, Bell, Hurst, Bozeman and Thielen. The point of playing with the cap is to roll over extra and not waste it when you aren’t competitive. Then we could splurge on actual “top” FAs in 2-3 years when we have an actual shot.

    • The league would protect him.  The amount of poo Jerry Jones has had exposed and got away with?  The amount of poo Stephen Ross has got away with?  How long Dan Snyder got away with essentially fuging sex trafficking employees and poo???????  Taking down JR was a hit job.  You think the other 31 owners, especially the older ones aren’t blathering, blatant, ignorant ass, bigoted rich racists who have committed far worse things than Blue Jean Fridays?  The ones I named above have DEFINITELY did worse than what JR was accused of.  And do you think guys like Steve Smith would’ve been viewing him as a father figure if they felt that’s who he was?  JR pissed the league off with that last lockout situation and they made him pay.  They lined a new guy up to join their billionaire boys club in Tepper, and they prolly slid a pretty penny to Jonathan Jones to write the “expose,” to get JR out of here.  Again, all the owners I’ve listed above have been verified on record for doing worse poo, yet they’re still running their organizations, unquestioned.  They hand-picked Tepper long before JR was forced out, so he isn’t going anywhere.  Sadly.  fug the NFL.  (Also, to be clear, it’s always fug racism, bigotry, and sexual exploitation - not ever excusing it.  Just making the point that the NFL isn’t operating under this clear standard of justice applied to each and every case)
    • I was still in the throes of a contentious divorce and my job at the time had me work on Sundays.  At the beginning of the season I tried to still work around Sundays so I could see our games.  I think after Bryce came back from the benching, I said fug it.  First time in my life I intentionally didn’t watch our games, even through the Atlanta finale.  In the past, even if we didn’t live up to expectations, I would watch to still support and at least analyze player development, strengths and weaknesses, coaching, etc., but Bryce makes all of that a moot point, so I stopped watching. Again, this is asinine,  it if he is retained (still can’t believe this is even a possibility of a conversation due to how shitty our organization has become under Tepper), I will NOT watch next season until he is gone.
