Hope for TMJ?

TMJ isn't a bad WR. He's better at crossing/posts/flies, rather than the hooks/comebacks/corner routes he was mostly asked to do last year. He isn't good at creating separation early (or late for that matter). So, he probably does need a QB that is less risk adverse. That, or he needs to somehow earn his current QB's trust.

Just going off heresay, he seems to be talented enough, but maybe not the best teammate. Those things matter. WRs should always try to be best friends with their QB. Trust plays a big factor in getting targets when you're not open.

I am all about giving TMJ another year to see what he can do under Canales and Idzik's guidance. Not to make excuses for TMJ because he's brought a good portion of it on himself, but he hasn't been set up to succeed either.

He has the traits and experience at LSU that you look for and was only 20 when drafted, so he still has time to prove himself. I would give him this year to step up and see if the light has switched on for him yet. No harm in the competition.

I don’t think it’s mental. He can’t separate at all when the CBs press him. It’s one thing when it’s college DBs and you have other weapons taking primary focus.

I believe he could separate but he doesn't have the "dawg" in him or desire to put some work in to improve. He has serious tools but something is so odd with him.

Some guys don’t have it. It happens to many day 1 and day 2 picks every year. I honestly don’t think he has serious tools.

We harsh on KB and Funchess and they blew away TMJ 3 year stats. Those two had 33 TDs in their first three years compared to TMJ’s 1 TD in three years and KB missed an entire year to injury.

Good point, agreed

Not a good teammate.  Not a Dawg.

You guys realize he was the 3rd best receiver on the LSU teams?

46 671 14.6 13 41 - 2029

48 731 15.2 10 75 - 2020

His college tape also doesn't agree with these lazy Pabther fans labels.

1400 yards and 23 touchdowns in 2 seasons.

The kid can play.  I'm sure if he ever moves on from the Panthers, he'll go back to catching passes from Burrow.

I never remember who exactly says what on here, but it amazes me how some guys on the roster get MASSIVE passes for their poor play, sighting an incredible amount of unfounded excuses.  Yet other guys y'all crucify when there is clear evidence that they may have not been the cause.  How does TMJ get a pass when buys like Bryce/Mingo don't?  I'm not directing this at any 1 person, not the creator either.  Trying to see optimism is fine of course - I hope you are right - just the hypocrisy is amazing in some people.

Just speculating here but it could be that those 2 have had 1 rookie season to adjust and try to perform while TMJ has had 3. Big difference when trying to form an opinion.

I agree but you would reasonably expect the opposite to be true - those 2 with only 1 rookie season being seen with optimism and TMJ being seen as a known bust....but not the case.  Many other examples as well from past years.

Well I think you can say TMJ is not working out here. You can call it bust or whatever but the fact remains that he's had plenty enough time to show more than what he has so far. If a wr cannot stand out among his peers in the receiver room on this team in the time he's been here I would say he's not going to cut it in this league.

This post is one year too late for me, Im out this year.

Huge deal if he could not get even a jersey on game days last year. You can blame coaches or young, but most of the blame goes to TMJ.

If I was Danny boy, Id be calling other teams asking about their 2020 1-3 round disappointments to trade. Like who knows if a team change could spark either player, but I believe its best for panthers to move on. That said I would not cut him before OTAs or TC, no point unless he turned into a cancer. Don't care about him wanting to be traded either, this is the NFL earn it!

Lazy labels? Have you actually watched him play, especially pre-season since he’s done very little in the regular season? As @Jon Snow eloquently said above, if TMJ can’t stand out in the Panthers WR room as a 2nd round pick in 3 years, he’s not good and sorry, he can’t play. It’s still amazing to me how much we overrate our players in here, especially when they haven’t lived up to their draft slot.

    • This is huge may not be a trap game but this plays a major part in what they want to do. If we can get some pressure on Sam we know what he does with pressure coming hit and heavy. Also we may be able to take the top off their defense a backup safety trying to stop TMac or Cooker over the top or forcing him to play the backend should allow us to run the ball somewhat effectively. Either they allow some runs or we take some shots and if Bryce and whoever can connect deep we’ll be in business for another big time win against a top notch opponent. Might not be a trap game but health travel game plans all play a major role in each weeks game plan and this week might be leaving our way. We’re missing some replaceable pieces they’re missing key anchors to the offense and defense major difference time to solidly ourselves at one of the top teams in the nfc tomorrow fellas buckle up.
    • Yes.  If I am not mistaken, we need to sign Coker to the ERFA tender and insist that XL spends his spring and summer at a WR camp and not Coon huntin on his four wheeler.  XL was raw when we picked him--which is why I wanted to go another direction--and we are seeing how raw.  He is basically learning a position.     The Panthers will make their move in 2026 to be an NFL powerhouse behind Bryce.  Bryce needs intelligent WRs who catch the ball.  That said, we need a solid #2 to challenge XL and make cutting him easy, if necessary.  A #2 WR (intented to be a #1 by now) with under 400 yards is embarrassing.   On offense, you have to ask, "Where can we get better?"  In my view, #2 WR, TE (although they are improving) and maybe C (again, if we re-sign Mays, he is trending up and at 26, entering his prime--I say stay with him and find competition later in the draft (not good for C).  OL depth maybe?  In other words, XL is a glaring weak spot.
