According to Legette, Panthers will draft Legette at #33

"So we draft you at 33, what happens now? And then there's a bunch of questions that happen after that."

I think Canales probably just straight up told Leggette that.   That happens all the time.  Canales just doing what literally every coach would be forced to do if a player right before the draft went to the media and said it.  That, almost never happens.

Daniel Jeremiah with more on him...(linked to the right time)

DJ echoes common concerns but also echoes high 2nd round being likely (It really seems like our liking of him isn't smoke).  Tough eval - muscled up and fast but two big concerns:

1-too tight to be able to run a full route tree

2-blended in at the Senior Bowl, didn't jump out down there around other guys with NFL talent

He's not coming into the league to just plug in outside.  Needs plays in an environment tailored to him.

Doesn't exactly sound like a major upgrade. Mentions Ladd and Pearsall killing dudes in context with Legette not standing out at the Senior Bowl. I've seen Pearsall creeping up on some mocks and simulators

Next thing you know Legette is going to be telling the media all of his teams plays, what routes he's being asked to run

Yeah I'm pretty sure Legette broke an unwritten rule about pre-draft player/team relations lol.

I'm a Pearsall fan but there's been such little connection or reported interest on our end, I'm not expecting it to happen.  Would be happy if it did but I just doubt it.  Doesn't seem we're eyeing the technician, high-floor types.  Seems like we'll continue to ignore dudes.  If not, then I'll be pleasantly surprised.

Legette, Worthy, Corley, Dez Walker, at lot of our meetings have been with the more boom/busters. Scares me with this scouting department.  Let us not forget Fitt may be gone, but the guys who wrote up all the reports and helped create the boards are all still here.

Leggette just seems like a straight up country kid and a good dude.  Think a man just straight up said ABC and he we was like awesome.   I mean, many of these are just straight kids and think like kids.  He probably not even thinking about draft gamesmanship of different front offices and all that.   We have seen in the past drafts after the fact a lot of these kids 100% take what these teams tell them as the truth.  Because there have been a lot of dudes that have hung onto it not playing out like promised.  Local boy.  Went to his local college.  Grinded.  Local NFL team then says they are going to draft him.  I get him being excited.

Yeah, the only hope in that context is that teams often bring in guys for 30 visits because they have questions on either mental or health aspects of prospects. Like you don't really need Ladd or Pearsall to come in and draw up plays or routes on a white board but Legette, Corley, you might have some questions about why they weren't asked to run more precise routes. Find out if it was just a system thing or if it's actual mental or physical limitations

I’d like to point out that they got together with scouts and staff, and the way Morgan talked I got the impression that it was his idea and was a new thing that hadn’t been done that way in the past.

Though, it seems common sense dictates that you do that, it is probably wise not to assume. There hasn’t been a lot of common sense involved.

EDIT: I actually trust them to do a good job. It’s not an easy job though.

Yep - they're job interviews at the end of the day, some visits could be to test out how their personalities fit.  Lots of former GM's have admitted such.  They may be close to sold but hear weird things and want to see how they fit.  Although, we met with Legette enough, and there's enough out there definitely giving credence to our affection being true.

I don't why--but it always seems like we can't hide our intentions lol.  Doesn't matter who is here.  We're either, "oh yeah, we all saw that coming" early-on that turns into "who the f*ck is this" come late Round 2 lol.  Never do I find myself being "Nice, I liked that kid during the process, maybe a tad high but promising pick"

If it's Legette, as someone mentioned, it will just be funny how loudly, yet again, we telegraphed our intentions.

Probably already been stated, but Canales was asked about it--said, (paraphrasing) "Yeah, I told him that.  I told about 50 others that too.  Part of the process."

I think both Legette and Walker would love to stay home.

Asked about Xavier Legette saying the Panthers told him they'd draft him at 33, Canales said: "Oh yeah, I said that to him, and 50 other guys."

How do you know they did? He could be saying this trying to get someone to draft him higher.

NFL teams do it all the time.  We know that.  Players just spill the beans AFTER the draft about those convos.  Think Leggette just got ahead of himself.

    • What's wrong with Damien Lewis? He played pretty well last year.
    • Official NFL Cuts Tracker Deadline for roster cuts is Tuesday, August 26th. At this moment (Friday, August 22nd) the only interesting names I see are... K Caden Davis (BUF) RB Ameer Abdullah (SF) WR Equanimeous St. Brown (SF) WR Donovan Peoples-Jones (NO) LB Khaleke Hudson (TEN) Abdullah, St. Brown, Peoples-Jones I don't exactly think we should cut anybody for but it was just interesting seeing those names. Khaleke Hudson was on the Panthers' practice squad last year I believe and might have even gotten called up? And of course, Caden Davis just because of the question mark at kicker this season for the team.
    • I'll say 6/10. I don't know that we learned a whole lot about this team during preseason that we didn't already know. We didn't play the starters enough to really get a feel for what to expect. We had one good drive against the Browns, one 3-and-out and two 3-and-outs against the Texans. That's an extremely small sample size across 3 games regardless of performance. My camp/preseason takeaways: Jalen Coker might be the best WR on this team and is certainly no worse than #2. Nic Scourton is going to be a good player for us. Possibly very good. Bobby Brown was our best free agent addition. Jack Plummer isn't an NFL QB. Not even a practice squad guy. Having anyone other than Canales and Evero call plays was a really stupid and pointless idea. Our depth is largely non-existent, especially on defense. The three areas we actually DO have depth are on the OL, in the WR corp. and at RB. I can't fathom why Dan Morgan didn't do more to upgrade ILB during the offseason. We better hope Lathan Ransom steps up at FS because if he doesn't we have a massive hole. For all the hype surrounding Sanders/Evans, Tommy Tremble is still the best TE on the roster. I'm only slightly less enthusiastic going into the regular season than I was a month ago. I think our starters on offense are solid and we should be pretty good there unless Bryce totally regresses. On defense, we're probably bottom 3rd in the league if 100% healthy and significantly worse than that if injuries become an issue. We badly need at least two of our rookies to become high-level players early (ideally one of the pass rushers + Ransom) and at least 2 of our free agent additions (ideally Moehrig + Bobby Brown) to be significant upgrades over last year. Call me pessimistically optimistic 😆
