I honestly think we just drafted Jonathan Mingo again.

we didn't. not a great comp. same size and measurables doesn't mean same player.

not going to waste time arguing it, though. people who hate it aren't going to be persuaded in here just like people who love it aren't going to be persuaded otherwise.

gonna have to wait to see who was right.

lol at the tears some are shedding.

it's a great pick and an incredibly smart move to make ensuring that the guy you believe is going to be a strong WR for you is going to be around for 5 years on a rookie deal.

and we keep the same number of picks and only drop back a little with one of them.

its roughly 60 spots all for a guy that our damn head coach said he still needed work.   It doesnt make sense.  Like at all.  The 5th year option isnt that important, if the kid can play he will get a second deal, if we have to ride it out to year 5 then we have fuged up somehow.  It just makes no sense to not going into thursday night with the 33 pick with potentially still getting the player you wanted and not see what type of offers you can get.  Its classic panther panicking

Its insane how we come up with ways to shoot ourselves in the motherfuging foot.  Why in the fug would morgan give up draft capital to move up one damn spot for a player that was going to be there?  What the fug are we doing?

You might not like the player but you can’t be upset with the move considering WR contacts

He's going to be fun for interviews with his accent, love it!

Will he be a good play?  Who knows.  It's up to Morgan and Canales to maximize his talent.  I understand picking up the 5th year option, especially looking at the WR contracts hitting $30 million a year.

As fans, we can never know what a team is thinking.  We can only look at it like a fan.  Morgan said XL has the dawg in him.  We'll see if that's the right choice.  There's a lot more to the NFL draft than YouTube cut-up highlights.  The medicals, interviews, and coaching backgrounds go a long way to figuring this out.

Couple of things.  This is the Jordan Palmer flag football game where NFL players (including Bryce Young and DJ Metcalf) play for charity.  Who was Bryce throwing it to?  DK.  Interesting....

Is this my crazy brain connecting the dots?  No.  I just think it's interesting to see.  Just interesting that Steve Smith Sr. said that XL reminded him of DK in a few ways...  Though it was hilarious seeing this giant human being play flag football with weekend warriors.

Will XL be a hit?  I don't know.  But it's going to be entertaining one way or another.  It's not my job to make the picks, thankfully.  The criticism is very valid after years of poor drafting.  We need to see the improvement on the field.

I mean Leggette has a crazy high ceiling.

what did you want Leggette to do in that offense when they were playing grad coaches at QB or WRs? The minute they got a somewhat decent QB he started to shine and make massive growth strides.

I feel better about XL than Mingo. But I think Ladd was the best pairing for checkdown Young

The decent QB is the issue that the Panthers have at the moment. Will BY turn the corner this season and make Legette legit? I sure hope so.

Well if they have the 5th year option they have him on a rookie contract for 4 years before needing to worry about an extension. If they took him at 33 they'd be paying him after 3 years. If he pans out that will save them what, at least $20m in cap space for 1 year?

2nd round is a 4 year deal.

    • I like what Freeling brings to the table all around. If he is willing to put in the work he has an opportunity to be one of the better Tackles in the league down the line. Hunter Brazzell and Hecht are all premium additions but development from our staff are the key to unlocking them. Hopefully Lee and Wheatley will provide much needed additional depth to our secondary. Beyond that it's important not to get too caught up in draft grades. Many drafts over the years that turned out to be really good were not fawned over with praise. While some that were ended up being historical duds. Panthers fans ought to know this as well as anyone. In conclusion...
    • Maybe a bit of a homer take but I can't give us a grade lower than A.   Freeling was arguably the best LT prospect in the draft.  His athletic ability is off the chart and at 6'7" that can move.  It was a no brainer pick.   Hunter's key word is Violence. Putting him next to Brown should scare an offensive coordinator. These two give Scourton and Phillips plenty of chances to get one on one opportunities. Brazzell, another tall receiver with sprinter speed.  Our WR room is filled with tall talented WR.  Brazzell is going to give us a WR that can take to roof off the defense.  Basically Jimmy Horn with size. W. Lee III has a nickname of the Blanket. (heard this on the Beleav podcast with J. Stewart)  What a great name.  A great value in the 5th round. Hecht A strong, fast and extremely smart center. Many had him listed as the best center in the draft.  He's most likely a starter sooner than later. Wheatley A good safety in round 5.  Someone who could see playing time.   Kuwatch  I love this pick.  At minimum he will be a key piece on special teams and with some good coaching he'll see some packages where he'll play.  His down piece is he doesn't stay up in the running game.  Good coaching will fix this.  He reminds me a bit of A.J. Klein.   All these picks were great value.  I believe everyone of them were graded higher than the pick we took them.   Dan Morgan is IMO doing a great job turning this team into a good team with great depth.
